The newest leaks from Sony emails brought us some interesting news. It's the first information about Bioshock adaptation being worked on since that cancelled version of Gore Verbinski, back from 2009.

Hi Amy,
Ryan asked me to as you if you are really doing a Bio Shock movie. Not sure exactly which one he is referring to, but I told
And well, Ryan Gosling having interest in it. This is just getting interesting. But take it with a grain of salt, after the leakage Sony has gone through massive reorganization that it's impossible to tell what future projects are still actual.

Ryan, huh
Andrew Ryan Gosling.
If so please take inspiration from Rapture, not Columbia.

Rapture is far more interesting
I'd watch it, the atmosphere of the original Bioshock could make for an interesting movie, even suspenseful at times if done right.
The focus on genetic manipulation and the fucked-up-ness of how it makes people could look cool on film
Not exactly which one he's referring to, but still
I feel like they'll revisit both of the worlds in their respective films. If it will stick as a franchise, obviously.
Holy shit please let this be good.

i want to see how a bioshock movie works, and how good the big daddy fights would be in the movie
In another email there's also a mention of J.J Abrams considering a Cloverfield sequel (possibly an episodic show) and a Half Life film.
if this becomes a thing, I hope it's good. it'd be awesome to see a bioshock movie, as long as it's done correctly.
Wikileaks ruins all the fun of a surprise announcement.
Likely to end up PG-13 then, but I guess that could work. Gore Verbinski left the project because the studio didn't want it to be R.

R rated films have seen more success recently though with films like Kingsman, 22 Jump Street, Gone Girl, American Sniper
Wikileaks is still a thing?
I don't think the experience that Bioshock delivers is fit for a movie, it's made for a game format. I highly doubt it will turn out good.
I think they can exist in Bioshock's world and not be what the game is.
A lot of the story could be about a scientist helping to develop splicers, and then splicers taking over Rapture.
Personally, I don't even think they should show a Big Daddy till the very end of the movie if they are doing a sequel.
Gosling tries to save a little sister, while being chased by splicers, with signs of an even bigger creature following them.
At the end Gosling sees the Big Daddy, gets knocked unconscious and the screen turns black for us and the little sister goes "Daddy!". Then we hear it stomping away as the credits begin to roll.

Why not? It has everything a good film could have. A thrilling story and atmosphere, fantastic scenery, interesting characters...
We're obviously not talking about a copy-paste adaptation here. I don't expect we'll see the main character running around and shooting bad guys 90% of the time while the rest is plot building, like the game. If they focus on the atmosphere and plot and not the action, we could have a great film here. I could relate it to The Snowpiercer, if you've seen it.

Snow Piercer wasn't that good though because never really expanded on the train other then life is awesome everywhere other then the back.
I'd love to see a movie that focuses on maybe a citizen of Rapture or something. That sort of slice of life that they did with the tapes, but focusing on a minor (new obviously) character in the middle of the big picture. Being a citizen in the middle of Rapture going mad has the potential to make for a really fucking good actiony-horror movie.

An alien movie gone Bioshock. Ripley trying to survive against a big arse Alien that hunts. Rapture person surviving against horrific splicers and delinquents, big daddies, little sisters. Dark atmosphere, 50's sort of appeal/cinematography.
I think a movie about surviving rapture would be a lot less interesting than the descent of it. The splicers and big daddys could still be a part of it, but I feel like they would a be lot more interesting in a movie if they werent shown much. They could still be just as menacing, like the way pyramid head was in the first silent hill movie.

Or just System Shock 2.
Would rather have a nicely funded TV series along the lines of the 'Rapture' novel.
its probably gonna suck
sad that this is true, since pretty much all game to movies out there have either flunked hard or were really crap, outside of an insanely short list you can count on 1 hand

After how disappointing the gameplay of Infinite was, I would much rather see a Bioshock movie come out.

yeah i really hope they don't nerf the gameplay in this movie :)
I wouldnt know how i would like this, a horror movie would suck because knowing hollywood it will be a bunch of jump scares, not making use of raptures atmosphere for scariness.
Of course it'll suck, it'll only run at 24fps.
intellectual ryan gosling in fancy clothes protecting a little pale girl with a huge ass syringe fighting big daddies sounds adorable
i cant say i see columbia translating well, but the whole utopia in chaos thing could fit a movie. I just see this being a dumb horror action movie though, without the cool themes and storytelling which makes me sad. And since da big boy left irrational, i dont expect this to be accurate or very carefully made

I wonder how will be the interactions and fights between ryan and big daddies. They were too flexible to fit into a script. I can imagine Ryan not intervening Big Daddy first, then feel the need for ADAM for more plasmids and hunt a daddy down later.
