Trump signs executive order reducing restrictions on oil drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic
Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at reducing restrictions on oil drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic in order to "unleash American energy".
The US president said it would create "thousands and thousands" of jobs, despite a downturn in the oil market.
It could undo a ban put in place by Barack Obama in order to protect swathes of the ocean from development.
...
As he signed the order, called the America-First Offshore Energy Strategy, Mr Trump said: "Our country's blessed with incredible natural resources, including abundant offshore oil and natural gas reserves, but the federal government has kept 94% of these offshore areas closed for exploration and production.

:suicide:
this is a crime against humanity and if there's any justice in the world everyone involved in shit like this will be tried and imprisoned for it
And watch as the number of off-shore oil spills become more frequent. This is completely unnecessary and will just continue to pollute the environment.
I'm ready to ride the big black tide.

Ther'll definitely be a lot of ocean to ride on

Like, I honestly understand you have a different point of view, but how you form your opinions from the observations you make concerns me to be honest.

Can we have an honest discussion?
Why are you genuinely excited for this?

It hurts the first time but don't worry it gets better
I'm guessing the joking is a defense mechanism, instead of sinking into despair.
I don't know.

He bases his opinions based on distrusting the government (but not businesses for some reason even though they have just as much if not more of a reason to lie and manipulate) and wanting to not pay taxes and that's literally it. He doesn't give a shit about the consequences, assuming he even knows what they are.
Most people who feel like that have extremely shallow reasoning. Libertarians I find tend to come in two forms: People who are very wealthy, and people who are very stupid. I'll leave it up to him to explain which of these two groups he's part of.

Don't forget young people, Ayn Rand likes to capture the young mind for her selfish experiments.

I don't see anything stupid about it, just incredibly selfish. It's no different than your usual on the fringe's edge ideology.

They'll either all be dead by then, or rich enough to survive it comfortably. There is no justice in this world anyway.
stay away from my waters

More oil reserves under under US control means a greater degree of liberation from the likes of Russia and the Saudis. Less of those two in the global politisphere and more of the US is ultimately good for everyone.

I'm a poor 20-something and I've never read any Ayn Rand. Don't make this thread about me.

They'll eventually build a large wall to a height that reaches above the clouds that splits the earth in two. Anyone who attempts to go against them gets the Navy thrown at them. They then start to hide history of what caused stuff like climate change and send the Navy to stop any who attempts to study it. Then pirates become common place and can gain large amounts of power. [sp]Everything becomes an anime about pirates essentially.[/sp]

You can achieve a similar outcome by reducing oil consumption. You only have to reduce use by 1.11 million barrels a day to eliminate the Saudi imports.
[editline]30th April 2017[/editline]
Which is only about 12% of passenger car consumption.

or build more nuclear and green energy while making efforts to reduce wasteful consumption
more oil just means you're prolonging dependence on oil

Do the effects on the environment long term have no impact on your views?

Yeah, fuck it, more control and if the rest of the world burns, fuck them, right?
More oil reserves under under US control means a greater degree of liberation from the likes of Russia and the Saudis. Naw, that would be smarter. Can't have that now can we?
