A thread for songs that tell a story not through just lyrics, but word painting and "discussions" between band members, and so on, in a somewhat "operatic" style. I believe this was most famously started by The Who with Magic Bus and A Quick One: some less known ones
Basically any song by La Dispute. They really know how to paint a picture. Amazing lyrics, create a perfect scene Edit: Also, as for "Conversation between band members", at about 2:49 of this song theres like a full conversation/argument between two of the band members, its pretty funny because I've seen them live and they always talk about something different when they get to that part of the song. not exactly "operatic" but pretty cool :v:
HAHA La Dispute in Vedi's thread?
you don't get it at all do you
I guess we just have different interpretations when it comes to music, eh? Can't we just accept that and appreciate each others tastes? I mean, the stuff you posted in the op isn't exactly my bag, but I still respect it.
well it's not a matter of good or not it's a matter of does it match the song format, concept, and structure of those posted in the OP which those don't. you could have posted that one shit A7X song and it would've been better even though I think said band is the worst thing to happen to this world ever
ridiculously theatrical music eh? Ever listened to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway? It's pretty theatrical and it's got this bizarre and utterly impenetrable concept and obviously it's hilariously overindulgent, since it was recorded at the height of 70's prog excess.
no i have not

I don't mean painting lyrical pictures I mean word painting. it's a musical term.
How could The Mariner's Revenge Song by The Decemberists be left out?

couldn't if I tried. really couldn't.
