• The Best Sci-Fi Films

So I'd like to hear from you guy what the best sci-fi films are. My girlfriend and I are looking for some good ones to watch. I'm thinking THX 1138 is going to be good, and I thought Minority Report was really good.
Gattaca is good in a "makes you think where humanity is heading" sort of way. Not your average sci-fi space ships and lazers and whatnot.
Serenity. (Then again I loved Firefly so meh)
But don't watch Serenity without watching all of Firefly first.
Event Horizon, Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and THE THING Are my favorite sci-fi films. The Thing doesn't really count so much I guess but it's a bloody creepy and awesome film that I loved to pieces. Event Horizon is one of the most genre defining films of horror/sci-fi IMO.
Serenity. (Then again I loved Firefly so meh)
I've heard good things about Firefly and Serenity from my grandparents as well, so I'll have to give them a try.
Serenity. (Then again I loved Firefly so meh)
I love you. Also: Bladerunner, Sunshine [editline]10:11PM[/editline] Alien, Aliens [editline]10:12PM[/editline] also, inb4 avatar
Star Wars.
So what I've got on my list so far is this (some things were found on lists of movies elsewhere or from friends): A Clockwork Orange Cube Dune Gattaca Mad Max (the trilogy) Tron Solyaris Stalker Total Recall Blade Runner THX 1138 2001: A Space Odyssey The Terminator Firefly Serenity I have the whole Alien set, and Star Wars.
Alien, Aliens, and Predator (though Predator is more of an Action movie with a sci-fi twist added in).
I'll be typical. Star Wars for me. Has anyone watched that show "science of star wars"? Apparently some star wars technology is plausible. I really hope the light saber is included in that category!
Bladerunner Alien Aliens The Thing Predator Moon
Blade Runner Solyaris (original) Silent Running 2001: A Space Odyssey Gattaca Contact
Event Horizon, the first two Alien movies (Alien & Aliens), Resident Evil, Solaris, Terminator 2 and 3.
District 9 if you count it as sci-fi
Moon, Event Horizon, Sunrise, Alien + Aliens, Bladerunner, The Thing, Total Recall, Serenity.
Well I liked it.
that wasn't really a scifi
Moon The best new Sci-Fi in a long time imo.
Event Horizon, the first two Alien movies (Alien & Aliens), Resident Evil, Solaris, Terminator 2 and 3.
Wut?
It looks like everyone agrees for the most part. Thanks a lot.
Brazil if you would count it as a sci-fi film.
Brazil was on one of the lists I found, so I guess you could count it.
The new Star Trek wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, reminds me of Mass Effect, with lots of super cool lasers and explosions and shit, not to mention lens flare coming out the wazoo. 2001: A Space Odyssey is frickin' amazing, but it's also a very long and very slow movie, not one meant to be watched casually. Blade Runner's good, but I'd advise trying to watch one of the director's cuts rather than the theatrical release, with its godawful narration. Sunshine's good, as is District 9. There's probably a lot more that I can't think of just now.
Motherfucking Event Horizon.
Event Horizon, the first two Alien movies (Alien & Aliens), Resident Evil, Solaris, Terminator 2 and 3.
I really hate to say this...Terminator 3 phailed. But Terminator Salvation was a moderately good and entertaining film.
