The missile flew about 60 km (40 miles) from its launch site at Sinpo, a port city on North Korea's east coast, the South Korean Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. Sinpo is home to a North Korean submarine base. The launch comes just a day before the start of a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where talks about adding pressure on the North to drop its arms development will take center stage. "The launch took place possibly in consideration of the U.S. -China summit, while at the same time it was to check its missile capability," a South Korean official told Reuters about the military's initial assessment of the launch.
White House Response: https://www.state.gov/secretary/remarks/2017/04/269465.htm
Well, yeah. Might as well skip the harsh words at this point. Not like they care.
I'm starting to think they just like launching shit into the ocean.
Oh no, a range of 60km, maybe they can even hit themselves with the next one.
"We have spoken enough about North Korea, we have no comment" if that isn't a subtle way to dash the Norks hopes and ambitions of pissing us off, I don't know what is :v:
If we got everyone to collectively stop reporting about Norkland, they might just fade away.
If only that were how the world works.
Ignore it until it goes away sounds awfully naïve wouldn't you say?
That statement has a bit of an ominous ring to it I think
The only viable weapon North Korea possesses against South Korea and the western world is opening their borders and declaring reunification. That would proper fuck South Korea for generations to come.
The only viable weapon North Korea possesses against South Korea and the western world is opening their borders and declaring reunification. That would proper fuck South Korea for generations to come.
That and the heavy artillery pointed at Seoul at all times
Ignore it until it goes away sounds awfully naïve wouldn't you say?
Only on the record, for the media. In all likelihood NK is and will always be very closely monitored by intelligence/security institutions among nations around the world.
That and the heavy artillery pointed at Seoul at all times
How long do you really think that'll last from first shot is fired? Fifteen minutes? Half an hour, maybe? You cannot do that much damage in that time with artillery alone. It'd cause deaths, for sure, but it's not really a viable weapon. More like bringing a nail-file to a knife fight.

The only reason why South Korea doesn't want to start shit is because the North literally has their capital city hostage
Seoul is a large city with a hell of a population density. 15 minutes of artillery fire on Seoul will be the death of thousands.
I'd put it in high hundreds, but yeah it's not gonna go over without hurt. But it will also be very recoverable. The economic and social devastation as a result of reunification with the world's shittiest infrastructure and industry will not be for generations.
That statement has a bit of an ominous ring to it I think
I get that feeling too, its like they're about to do something about them. Like when you say, right that's it, I've fucking had enough of you and go punch someone.
I'm starting to think they just like launching shit into the ocean.
North Korea has been waging war on Poseidon for years now, but the battle is still not won. Also, what would happen if North Korea accidentally actually killed people with the crap they're launching into the ocean? Would anything happen or would the UN just try to force more sanctions on them?
That statement has a bit of an ominous ring to it I think
Sounds like something out of Civilisation.
I'm starting to think they just like launching shit into the ocean.
And im sure they're learning nothing and just love wasting their time and money
That and the heavy artillery pointed at Seoul at all times
The vast majority of their artillery is out of range of Seoul just going by distance from the border, and the ones that are in range are as mobile as a beached oil tanker. It's the ballistic missiles that'd fuck it over, especially since SK doesn't have enough ABMs.
I think kim jong un is having too much fun playing ksp irl.
Every time Kimmy busts a nut, he slams his fist down on the launch button.
If North Korea keeps getting ballsy, maybe Trump might actually do something about it.
I think the best course of action with the North Korea situation is to give them nuclear weapons. Un-ironically.

They shelled an island a few years ago and killed some civilians and a few soldiers iirc. Here it is. Really nothing happened aside from some more sanctions and the UN acting pissed off about it.
Appeasement to avoid conflict is how WW2 came about.
Appeasement to avoid conflict is how WW2 came about.
Nazi Germany did a lot more than just shoot at the ocean, even before WW2 started.
Appeasement to avoid conflict is how WW2 came about.
different scenario. first off, NK is largely incompetent (not completely harmless though). also, invading them will be difficult, because even if we win, their population is subjected to a lot of propaganda and tend to be very poor, and it will be a burden for the rest of us to deal with
That was an artillery barrage on an island, not one of their test missiles falling on and killing people which was what he was talking about.
Regardless, they've killed people before with their dickwaving and it didn't reignite the war or anything. It leads to pretty much the same result, regardless if it was an accidental missile strike or intentional shelling of a lightly populated, disputed island. The UN would act all pissed off then ultimately do nothing because they've done everything short of restarting the war, and honestly nobody really wants that.
