28 August 2014 Last updated at 11:10 GMT 'Russian troops deployed' in Ukraine - Poroshenko Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has cancelled a visit to Turkey, citing "Russian troop deployments" in the east of the country. Mr Poroshenko said his place was in Kiev in view of a sharp deterioration in the situation in Donetsk region. His statement came as pro-Russia rebels took the coast town of Novoazovsk and threatened the strategic port city of Mariupol, in the region's south. The rebel successes constitute the opening of a new front in the conflict. Mr Poroshenko said he was calling a meeting of the Ukrainian security council. He added that Ukraine would initiate an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the crisis. "I have made a decision to cancel my working visit to the Republic of Turkey due to sharp aggravation of the situation in Donetsk region... as Russian troops were actually brought into Ukraine," Mr Poroshenko's statement said. Government forces had made significant advances against the separatists in recent weeks, but these gains seem in doubt with rebels now operating in two distinct areas of Donetsk region. All Russians 'volunteers' Ukrainian officials have repeatedly said that Russia has been sending troops and equipment to the rebels, but Russia has denied arming or covertly supporting them. Separatist leader Alexander Zakharchenko told Russian TV that 3-4,000 Russian citizens were fighting in their ranks. He said many of the Russians were former service-people or current service personnel on leave, insisting that all were volunteers. In other developments: An "increasing number of Russian troops" are involved in the fighting, the US ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, wrote on Twitter German Chancellor Angela Merkel demanded an explanation from Russia's President Vladimir Putin amid the reports of an incursion French President Francois Hollande said it would be "intolerable" if Russian troops were in Ukraine, and demanded that Russia stop sending aid to the rebels The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is holding a special meeting in Vienna to discuss developments in Ukraine. Ukraine's security and defence council confirmed reports that Novoazovsk had been captured by the rebels, whom they described as "Russian troops". I would say Russia isn't even pretending anymore, but they haven't really been pretending for a while now.
Well fuck.

Tomorrow: "Russian pilots volunteer to bomb a few targets in the Ukraine".
...and so it begins.
It's scary how well this denial tactic is working out for Putin in the international stage. Though at this rate more sanctions will probably be discussed.
Keep in mind the only confirmation of this has been from Kiev, no independent reports of it happening. Even the OSCE is not sure about the statements made by Poroshenko. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28967526
But Russia's envoy at the Organisation for Cooperation and Security in Europe (OSCE), Andrey Kelin, denied there were any Russian troops.
That's Russia's envoy though. Of course he will repeat the same line the Kremlin is currently giving.
That's Russia's envoy though. Russians ain't even hiding it anymore.

I thought you guys would learn by now not to believe anything unless there's actual proof
I thought you guys would learn by now not to believe anything unless there's actual proof
4000 troops don't appear out of nowhere.
He said many of the Russians were former service-people or current service personnel on leave, insisting that all were volunteers.
And even in some strange alternate universe where this statement is true, why is it legal for Russian people to go across the border to fight a fucking war?
4000 troops don't appear out of nowhere.
Unless they never existed to begin with. The rebels claim to have tens of thousands of troops, it's nothing new
And even in some strange alternate universe where this statement is true, why is it legal for Russian people to go across the border to fight a fucking war?
Same reason a bunch of guys in moldova fought and died to be separate and be friends with Russia.

Army will organize transport by unmarked tanks as usual.
I'm waiting for more confirmation. This would be big (and bad) news...
4000 troops don't appear out of nowhere.
Has anyone seen these troops? Photos? [editline]28th August 2014[/editline]
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1420390
This happened way before and isn't related to these 4000 troops at all.
This is exactly like how the Russians volunteered planes in the Korean War, and the Americans figured out obviously because tapping Soviet air traffic during a dog fight was completely silent whe the Koreans were communicating.
I thought you guys would learn by now not to believe anything unless there's actual proof
In all fairness you yourself believed that Crimea was being invaded by self defense forces made up of locals, while I was saying they were 100% Russian troops. Basically, I'm waiting till I see pictures of Separatists AND Russian soldiers working together inside Ukraine, or Russian soldiers not giving a fuck inside of Ukraine.
"Take me home, a special social project from Gazeta.Ru" A chance to take in pets from shelters.
Proof that not all Russians are heartless bastards.
