Kickstarter.
this is so true.
Did Fez have meme references?

up the bazoo
But FTL is good :c
At least two, maybe three of the games they flash by don't qualify for what they're mocking/insulting.
And they never acknowledge the fact that simple pixel-art is easy, fast, and has little room for error and can still look visually appealing.

But most of it was true. As for pixle art, you're a pretty shitty indie dev if you can't even attempt something a little bit more than a 2D pixle plane. Jesus Christ the CryEngine 3 dev kit, and the Unreal dev kit are free. You only need to pay royalties if you're actually cashing in on the game.

It's difficult and time consuming. Time is money, and that's something an indie dev doesn't have.
You see those fancy 3d models? They take a little longer than a 12-bit sprite sheet.
vvvvvv was good

a lot of those games that flashed by or whatever were good this guys just a hatin ass nigga
who's that second guy supposed to be

the word indie already implies that the developers don't have as much money as the big-name companies. And some people don't have the resources or time to render stuff in 3-D engines. Pixel art may be their only option.
i loved ftl and its simplistic graphic design
i don't know what the video maker has against some of the games that flashed by

That's a pretty generalizing statement.

Then they need to get it if they want to be a respected developer.

They still used the ~retro style~ which is just stale.
He never said they were bad. Their style is just overused and unoriginal.

there's a difference between good and shitty pixel art
most of the "retro grafix" indie games wouldn't pass as visually appealing in the days of the "retro games" that these indie games are "inspired" by
The meatboy reference was hilarious
"I'm gonna rape her!!!"
"ok :D"

Some no-name Russian devs who started to build a mod, and ended up making a game.

The point I'm trying to make is indie =/= poor unexperienced college kid who wants to make a game. Indie is somebody who doesn't have a production company to spoon feed them money.
Meh, the whole video is just "faggot lol ahaha" and a massive generalization. It's clearly a parody though and no one should actually take it 100% seriously. Also that Borderlands 2 part was kinda clever.

it's satire, shouldn't really let it get to you
did he mention breath of death VII or Cthullu saves the world in there? I liked those games but they're really, really retro and pixelly.
it's satire, shouldn't really let it get to you
It could've been funny if it wasn't so awfully immature.
I really don't like the hate for the "retro" art style. It looks great, can potentially run well on all computers, and is cheap. Focus on the gameplay, pixel art style is perfectly fine.

Polish of the game is more important than the graphics.
It's actually kind of a feat to get 8/16-bit graphics right these days. Out of all of those I think only Retro City Rampage is NES-compliant. A lot of games that promote their "8/16-bit" or "NES/SNES" graphics are actually talking about plain old pixelart, without taking into account color palettes, colors per tile, or anything like that.
Pixelart is often just used as a way to cheap out on art assets, which sucks and has gotten old (lel) really fast. I haven't seen good pixel art in a game in a while. (but that's probably because I don't look hard enough)

Don't count your eggs before they hatch, this mod isn't even released yet.
I wouldn't want to stop anyone from creating a game just because they are not as good at making AAA quality 3d models.
[del]Arguably[/del] the best game in existence, Cave Story, has 'retro graphics' but it could have been rendered in any number of ways and it would still be an amazing experience.
Well, wasn't Cave Story done by just one guy over years?

And often the polish doesn't make up for it.

Yeah, afterwards he even improved the aesthetics more with Cave Story+ along with the handheld releases which both used new HD sprites and art assets.
