Freedom of Press alrite
Inter TV studios set ablaze in arson attack The studios of one of Ukraine's most watched TV channels, Inter, was set on fire by attackers at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 4, and tires were burned outside. One journalist suffered a broken leg and several suffered from smoke inhalation, various media sources have reported, citing Inter. UNIAN news agency reported that 30 people were evacuated. No casualties were reported and the fire was out by 6 p.m., according to the Kyiv Fire Department. UNIAN news, citing the State Emergency Services division, reported: "At 16:31 local time on Sept. 4, Kyiv Emergency Situations Service operators received a call about a fire that had broken out at a building of a TV channel at 26 Schuseva Street. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found out that car tires in two piles had been set ablaze during a rally outside the building and an external source of ignition brought [into the building] had caused a fire on the first floor on an area of about 10 square meters and on the second floor on an area of 20 square meters," the service reported. The channel has been the target of several attacks and protests due to its alleged Russian links and support of Kremlin policy in Ukraine. Inter's owner is controversial Ukrainian billionaire, Dmytro Firtash, who faces bribery charges in the United States and who also owes the National Bank of Ukraine $482 million in unpaid loans dating from his ownership of the insolvent Nadra Bank, which cost taxpayers more than $145 million in payouts from the Deposit Guarantee Fund to depositors who lost their money. Firtash has been fighting extradition of the bribery charges from Vienna. The police were called when a group of 20 people arrived at Inter's offices. The attackers set up tents and brought tires that they set on fire and threw into the windows of the building, Kyiv city police spokesperson Oksana Blyschyk wrote on Facebook. However, Oleksandr Pylypets, a director at one of Inter's news services, told Ukrainski Novini that he saw 15 people in balaclavas push past the guards, rush into the building and set off several fire extinguishers before setting the studio on fire and leaving. Video footage by Ukrainski Novini shows four men being wrestled to the ground and arrested by police at the scene. City police chief Andriy Kryschenko told 112 News that six people were arrested. Interior Minister Arsen Avakov told 1+1 channel that those arrested were former soldiers.
It's ironical to some degree that Inter's journalist who suffered attack now demand justice even thought they actively defended attackers in Odessa fire. https://www.kyivpost.com/article/content/ukraine-politics/inter-tv-studios-set-ablaze-in-arson-attack-422228.html http://news.tverki.com/2016/09/04/in-kiev-set-fire-to-the-building-of-the-largest-tv-channel-inter/ https://www.rt.com/news/358245-ukraine-inter-channel-fire/ As of right now, situation is still very disturbing with people gathering tires by building (the main office), setting up tents and further threating journalists, with silent aproval of police. A reminder to how unprecidently weak is Ukranian goverment when dealing with nationalists. http://www.kyivpost.com/article/content/ukraine-politics/ukrainian-police-release-nine-ex-military-arrested-during-arson-near-inter-tv-stations-building-422275.html yup
No live coverage I know of, but all the news channels are talking about this here, especially Inter, obviously
saw some posts from ukrainian pages/people on VK & odnoklassniki saying that "they're burning the russian tv station, we should bring more tires" have i ever told anyone about how i really dislike extreme nationalists
What does that phrase mean in the first picture outside of the news quote? I tried using google and my rough understanding of Cyrillic but it came up with nothing.
What does that phrase mean in the first picture outside of the news quote? I tried using google and my rough understanding of Cyrillic but it came up with nothing.
Rough Translating into "Burn Bright soo it does not go out"
What does that phrase mean in the first picture outside of the news quote? I tried using google and my rough understanding of Cyrillic but it came up with nothing.
Hard to translate because it's supposed to rhyme and it sound pretty stupid when translated. Something like "burn, burn bright so the fire doesn't go out".
Soo according to http://inter.ua/en/news/channel Deputies helped around 70 Inter workers and journalist leave sieged building, all while the crowd kept throwing curses at them. What is interesting is that apparently during inital fire nationalist specifically targeted server rooms and destroyed company property that had stored material ready for air on news. Also, for those who still underestimate the issue, here is a video from month ago where nationalists attacked court that was hearing trial of Nicholas Tsukuru ofTornado batalion who was suspected of "being part of a gang that committed numerous offences including unlawful imprisonment and abduction of local residents, tortures and killings between January and March 2015". Guess what happened after that? Yup, he got free, no charge no further trial.
Wouldn't be surprised if Inter had some dirt regarding how Azov and others have been selling guns into the European Shadow Market.
Wouldn't be surprised if Inter had some dirt regarding how Azov and others have been selling guns into the European Shadow Market.
As if somebody in Europe would actually care. How often do you even hear about incidents like this? Or what about human right watch finding out secret SBU prisons where people been illegally tortured? Any reprecussion followed that? https://www.hrw.org/news/2016/08/28/ukraine-new-research-corroborates-secret-detentions https://www.hrw.org/report/2016/07/21/you-dont-exist/arbitrary-detentions-enforced-disappearances-and-torture-eastern
Violations by the Ukrainian authorities In most of the nine cases Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch investigated, pro-government forces, including members of so-called volunteer battalions, initially detained the individuals and then handed them over to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), who eventually moved them into the regular criminal justice system. Some were later exchanged for persons held by separatists and others released without trial. In three cases detailed in this report the SBU allegedly continued the enforced disappearances, keeping the individuals in unacknowledged detention for periods ranging from six weeks to 15 months. One individual was exchanged, the other two simply released without trial. With regard to two of the individuals, there is no record whatsoever of their detention. The June 2016 UN report noted that the cases of incommunicado detention and torture brought to their attention in late 2015 and early 2016 “mostly implicate SBU” and specifically mentioned the SBU compound in Kharkiv as an alleged place of unofficial detention. Based on the research findings detailed in this report, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch believe unlawful, unacknowledged detentions have taken place in SBU premises in Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Izyum, and Mariupol. We received compelling testimony from a range of sources, including recently released detainees, that as of June 2016 as many as 16 people remain in secret detention at the SBU premises in Kharkiv. Ukrainian authorities have denied operating any other detention facilities than their only official temporary detention center in Kyiv and denied having any information regarding the alleged abuses by SBU documented in this report.
When will silent approval of everything Ukraine does novadays end? Or does only Russia's actions get people's attention?
Comparing some people squeezing through corruption to a country illegally occupying another via an undeclared war is hilarious.
When will silent approval of everything Ukraine does novadays end? Or does only Russia's actions get people's attention?
Both Russia and Ukraine are wrong in ways but people only want to think one is wrong and one is right. [editline]6th September 2016[/editline]
Comparing some people squeezing through corruption to a country illegally occupying another via an undeclared war is hilarious.
I don't see any comparing between Ukraine and Russia, I see someone pointing out that Ukraine is unstable at the moment, which isn't wrong. Are we supposed to just ignore everything bad in Ukraine and ignore everything good in Russia?
Comparing some people squeezing through corruption to a country illegally occupying another via an undeclared war is hilarious.
There was no comparison anywhere in thread, i only noticed apathy toward news in Ukraine if they are not involving Russia in any way. Soo you actually proved my point - as long as there is "big bad Russia", anything else Ukranians do , even if it's horryfing, will be downplayed in scale and accepted. As for "squeezing" through. I'd suggest you actually read through human rights watch articles on Ukranian goverment - that giant gap is alot wider than you think. [editline]6th September 2016[/editline] holly fuck araknid you tracksuit ninja.
When will silent approval of everything Ukraine does novadays end? Or does only Russia's actions get people's attention?
Comparing the reaction to Russian actions to actions happening in ukraine right there.
Comparing the reaction to Russian actions to actions happening in ukraine right there.
He isn't wrong. How often do you see threads posted on fp about shit going on in Ukraine that is not Russia related? And how often is it posted by people who aren't Kari, Conscript, and a few others. What I said about him not comparing, I was referring to the actions of the actual countries and their governments, not peoples reactions to the actions of those countries. He hasn't straight up said 'RUSSIA GOOD UKRAINE BAD' in this thread, he has said that one country gets all the attention and the other gets close to none, which is a huge bias. The bias on this website is unbelievable.
They occupied and took control of a part of Ukraine. Illegally. Law is only as effective as long as it can be defended to be interpreted. [editline]6th September 2016[/editline] And when Kari's only posts in SH are there to paint the ukraine in a bad light, the bias is a bit obvious. Not downplaying whats happened here, but its gotten to the point of me not wanting to even bother reading them anymore.

Isn't that literally called shitposting? Soo yeah, if you don't want to read my post just read the sources. They are ukranian and clearly less bias on topic of nationalists burning down tv station. Cause soo far you spent more time backpedaling on your post's logic than discussing issue itself.
"freedom of press alrite" coming from the Russian shill.
"freedom of press alrite" coming from the Russian shill.
Doesn't mean that Ukraine doesn't have full freedom of press. https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2016/country-chapters/ukraine
However, Ukrainian authorities, citing the “information war” with Russia, took controversial steps restricting freedom of expression. In December 2014, the government’s creation of the Ministry of Information Policy coincided with independent reports of Ukrainian forces’ abuses in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian bloggers and journalists protested the new ministry, fearing it could lead to censorship. In April, Ukraine banned all films made in Russia after January 2014 and all films post-1991 that portrayed the Russian military in a positive light. In August, authorities introduced a list of 38 books, mostly by Russian authors, banned from being imported to Ukraine, and also “blacklisted” several Russian singers and actors for their views on the conflict. In September, the government expanded the list of persons banned from entering Ukraine to 382. Among them were 35 journalists and bloggers from several countries, including Russia, Israel, and Great Britain.
Russia is definitely worse than Ukraine when it comes to the press, I will not deny that, but the point is that Ukraine is not (or atleast not yet) the freedom loving democracy that lots of people seem to think it is following Maidan. [editline]6th September 2016[/editline] It just bothers me when people blow off what someone else says just because of the country they are from. And before you say "but he always talks shit about Ukraine and never Russia", does that mean I'm supposed to ignore all the points made by pro-Ukrainian users who don't say anything negative about Ukraine, and shitpost on their threads?
And before you say "but he always talks shit about Ukraine and never Russia", does that mean I'm supposed to ignore all the points made by pro-Ukrainian users who don't say anything negative about Ukraine, and shitpost on their threads?
Nowhere is anyone downplaying what happened here. We're downplaying the incredible amount of bias unnecessarily shoved into the post trying to sway opinions. If others do that in a pro-Ukrainian way -- feel free to shit on them. Its not shitposting to criticize someone being as biased as this on a serious matter.
He isn't wrong. How often do you see threads posted on fp about shit going on in Ukraine that is not Russia related?
And before you say "but he always talks shit about Ukraine and never Russia", does that mean I'm supposed to ignore all the points made by pro-Ukrainian users who don't say anything negative about Ukraine, and shitpost on their threads?
It's pretty obvious karimatrix made this thread to shit on Ukraine though. He bolded all the info of how the nationalists are scary soldiers in balaclavas but didn't care for their reasoning.
A reminder to how unprecidently weak is Ukranian goverment when dealing with nationalists.
Totally not biased. Besides, there are more memorable desperate pro-Russians (such as conscript and karimatrix) than pro-Ukrainians.
oh karimatrix, always ready to jump to the defense of russia and shill against any opposite opinions
He bolded all the info of how the nationalists are scary soldiers in balaclavas but didn't care for their reasoning. Totally not biased.
Please go ahead and give us insight to why people wearing camo could have gone to set ablaze building with people still inside of it. Please do.
oh karimatrix, always ready to jump to the defense of russia and shill against any opposite opinions
I like how you mention word "opposite opinions" - cause in this thread there was no opposite opinions. There is only some who frown upon event being bad, and rest of posters is you people who, since cannot argue with topic itself, had to resolve to "Kari's shill, i am here to post only about that".
If they want to burn their own propaganda outlets out of paranoia why not just let them.
Cause journalists (no matter how shitty they are) still people, and starting a fire that could've led to death of people is a bad thing.
oh karimatrix, always ready to jump to the defense of russia and shill against any opposite opinions
Coming from someone who's been critical of karimatrix before, just because he acts skeptical towards/defends some of Russia's sketchy actions doesn't mean he doesn't have a point. There's sketchy shit going on both sides - especially with nationalists involved. Seriously just because Russia and the separatists are behaving deplorably by occupying Crimea, sending in paramilitaries through the border and being responsible for human rights abuses/the arrests of journalists and other figures, it doesn't make the actions of those favouring Ukraine in the conflict any less deplorable or deprive people of the right to criticise them for it. Don't get into a double standards mindset.
Kari, you should really turn your own commentary down a notch in the OP. Maybe then there won't be as many people going "oh lookie here, it's Kari thread, lets ignore the OP and shitpost instead". [sp]Если, конечно, ты не занимаешься фишингом, da?[/sp]
