How to check how many Watts a GPU uses/how many Watts I have left?

[del]I have a shitty 250 W PSU and I need a new GPU.
Since 250 W is pretty low I need to make sure I don't buy a GPU that doesn't use all the Watts I have left. First, where can I check how many Watts I have left and how much my current GPU uses? I really can't seem to find how much via HWMonitor.
And two, where does it say how many Watts a card has? (http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=38&name=Video-Cards-Video-Devices)
For example, I looked here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130557) and I can't seem to find anything that says how much.
Thanks[/del]

After a little research, I found a benchmarking site that says the 465 takes up about 350 watts when at max potential.

So yeah, 250 watts won't cut it.
Just buy a new PSU instead of trying to figure out your power usage, you wont be able to manage a new top end GPU with just 250w, you need at least another 200 on top of that.
Plus power usage varies under load and you have to put into aspect the other computer components.

Also this, a 1000 watt PSU is around 120-150 depending on the manu.
Can someone recommended me a good PSU and GPU than?
Monitor is: 1680 x 1050.
Budget $450-500 USD.
what's the rest of your specs, there's no point getting a better graphics card if you're going to be using it with a shitty CPU
Good point,
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
4096MB RAM
DirectX 11
NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
1680 x 1050
VRAM: 2GB
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2220 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz

Mate, i would just buy a brand new system.
No use in putting a new GPU because that system ain't worth it.

Get this.
it's a good brand and it will last you a while.
Edit: his comp isnt bad. his cpu could be a bit better but other than that.
How bad would it be to leave my CPU at what I currently have when I buy a new GPU?
Well, not too bad. I mean, you can always buy a CPU later when you can afford it.

Although you probably need a new motherboard too if it doesn't work with the new CPU...
Yeah, I'll buy a new CPU later. Also, why would I need a new motherboard?

Not all CPU's take a single socket type.
If you give us your mobo, we'll be able to find out if you can upgrade your CPU at all.
At this point, I'd say just buy a new PC. It's a pain in the ass finding components that will work for an "outdated" mobo that will still be worth it.
new mobo and a new cpu isn't too too bad either.
about 300$ or so, you don't have to spend a lot of money like 1000$ to have a good computer now and days.
And xmas is around the corner! So maybe you'll cash in on that!
Well you don't necessarily need a new mobo. Pentiums are socket 775, right? So just get a core 2 series as a band-aid.
Go for a Silverstone or a Corsair PSU.

Ha, this was my old system, but I only had Windows XP, 256 Video RAM and 2gb of RAM, also, how the hell does that 8400GS HAVE 2gbs of Vram.

Buy a Core 2 Duo E7500 with a 5770.
With that power supply, should do good.
Otherwise, if you want I3s/I5s/I7s, you're going to need a 1156pin Motherboard.

Needs more than the 250 watts mate, he would need about a 500 watt PSU
I'm talking about the PSU that the other guy mentioned, when I said "With that power supply", I was refering to Mandalore777s post.

My mistake, i guess its this sleep deprivation.
A NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS only uses 40W. :wtc:
OK can someone give me the best combination for a CPU/Motherboard/GPU and a PSU at $400 please?

I can't really save for 1K and buy a new PC
Well, my Motherboard is a ACER EG31M, would I need to buy a new one or is it enough?

Wait until you see how much power NVIDIA ION uses

It wouldn't be legal to sell a 1kw PSU that only did 15% on-load, it needs to do +80% to get the european quality mark.
