Hi guys. I'm considering an 04 Jaguar X-Type 3.0L for my next car. I've decided I want to stick with entry-level luxury, and the one I'm looking at is only $9k. So just a few questions:
Is $9k for an 04 Jag X-Type (with 76k miles) a good deal? No accidents, 3 owners.
How long do you think it will last? It's already 7 years old and has 76k miles on it. I'm not familiar with Jags in terms of reliability, and I've heard mixed reactions from other people. How far do you think it'll go?
Also, last (and probably stupidest) question: Jags require premium fuel, but I've heard that giving it regular really only makes it .5 seconds slower to 60mph, and other very very minor issues. I know everyone says "Oh if you can't afford the premium fuel, then a Jag isn't for you", but still. The gas prices here are insane and if I don't absolutely HAVE to get it, I really don't want to.
Also general Jaguar discussion. :)

Prepare for super matinence costs :v:

This plus regular gas is not recommended for cars like those. They may have ping and knock sensors to compensate for the lower octane, but they shouldn't be constantly filled up with it. Premium is it.
I'm also wondering why it has 3 owners? There could be something wrong with it (or the owners just couldn't keep up with the maintenance cost.)
Also, gas prices aren't insane in the US. Compare our prices against Europe's and prepare for sticker shock.
In my current country, a Jag like that would cost around $40-50K.
No, all I've heard from people I know that work on cars for a living say they blow total asshole. Only (literally) paying for the Jaguar logo.

Jags are often bought by the kinda people who change their cars every 2-3 years, hence the 3 owners.
If it's well looked after then you'll be fine, I'd be put off by the autobox, possibly an expensive repair a few years down the line but other than that it looks like a good buy.
"Why haven't the British made a TV yet?"
"Because they haven't figured out how to make them leak oil!"
If you're American then that was the most hypocritical statement I've read for a loooong time.
sorry to be a dick,
but that's a fucking stupid idea for a first car. no matter what anyone says, you always fuck your first car up by either crashing it, poor maintenance, gluing on ridiculous spoilers or whatever.
by something cheap and beat up, run it for a year then buy something nice.
being a british car, american premium fuel is normal fuel here. it will run ok on shitty fuel if you don't hammer it. if you do then you'll get detonation and fuck your engine up.

He said it was his next car, so I don't think its his first. Also OP, look up in the manual what octane level it needs. Because like joe588 said, american premium is a 93 octane level and may (I'm not sure) be regular fuel in other locations.
Our regular is 95 octane, premium being 99, quite a gap. But the Jag's knock sensor and ECU would adjust as necessary so I imagine it should run fine.
Wow 99 octane level, I think 99 octane here is racing fuel. Not sure though since I don't buy racing fuel.
I put street legal 100 octane gas in my motorcycle once. It was a glorious day.
keep in mind that there are different octane rating systems...

If it was racing fuel you it wouldnt be sold on the street nor would you be able to afford it.

Never tried to purchase it, I saw an old pump for racing fuel a few years back that wasn't in operation anymore.
Something like an Audi would probably get you better bang for your buck.
Jags are okay but not for a first car... anyways they are just an over priced Ford nowadays.....
