he Westboro Baptist Church, whose members regularly picket near the funerals of fallen soldiers brandishing signs denouncing servicemembers, announced Sunday it will protest outside Roger Ebert's funeral. The Topeka, Kan.-based group, led by Fred Phelps, said it will picket outside Holy Name Cathedral, 730 N. State St., from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Monday before funeral services for the beloved Sun-Times movie critic, who died Thursday after battling cancer. The church has drawn criticism for its actions directed at everyone from gays and soldiers to priests and entertainment figures. community groups, such as the Patriot Guard Riders, have staged counterprotests, the Supreme Court ruled that the church's actions are not illegal and are protected by the First Amendment. Several members of the church have left and denounced it in recent months, including two granddaughters of Phelps, the church's founder. Last year, a church member ran to serve on the Kansas Board of Education, but lost. Ebert tweeted occasionally about the church, mocking it, calling it "odious," and linking to unflattering articles. When the Supreme Court ruled the church's activities were protected under the First Amendment, Ebert tweeted, "The Supreme Court rules correctly about the odious Westboro Baptist Church. A cheap price to pay for freedom of speech.
http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20130407/downtown/westboro-baptist-church-picket-outside-roger-eberts-funeral
Thumbs down for them I guess.
They are going to get mauled by thousands of roleplayers dressed like characters from the movie's on Ebert's favorites list.
Well, I guess that now that Siskel and Ebert are dead, no one can give them any thumbs up or downs.
They are such asshats.
I wish the WBC picketted kim jong Il's funeral so we didn't had to worry about them anymore.
There going to picket cause they get more money and attention.
Oh fuck off.
If it's anything like their normal picketing, then about a hundred or so people will show up to counter them, and they won't show up at all.
Hopefully a fat guy will come and sit on them. Again.
grr i'm so bothered grrrr
HEY! HEY GUYS! HATE US! PAY ATTENTION TO US!
Fuck 'em. RIP Roger.
Hopefully a fat guy will come and sit on them. Again.
An army of fatties Like a Roman testudo formation, but with fat people
Does giving them attention give them victory?
Hopefully a fat guy will come and sit on them. Again.
Have Billy The Fridge waiting for them.
At this point I'd just take it as a compliment to have my funeral picketed by them.
I don't care about WBC a whole lot myself, but I can say that, as someone who live in Chicago, the city is going to be def pissed about this.
Breaking: WBC pisses off America. More at 11.

I haven't really been following these guys. Looking at how popular Ebert is, I'd imagine something like that happening. Werner Herzog should make a documentary about it.
Attention whoring.
I give Westboro Baptist Church a 0.5 star rating. They characters, regardless of what they say are uninspired. The plot is redundant. Many of the actors have inherent personality flaws that make them completely unbelievable when viewed. Over the duration of the short time I spent watching them, all I got was a sense of complete obtuseness that could not be swept away like they swept away the arguments presented them. Do not go watch "The Westboro Baptist Church." It is a waste of your time and intelligence.
Why do you guys continue to give them this attention? They'd disappear if we just stopped reporting on them, or making any WBC action widespread on the news.

They're the North Korea of activist groups.
I have no idea someone hasn't pulled out a paintball gun and shot at them at one of these fucking funerals. They're all just standing there and I doubt anyone else would care.

Hate every simpering stupid vacant insulting member of it. Hate the sensibility that thought anyone would agree with them. Hate the implied insult to the world by its belief that anyone would be enlightened by them." -Roger Ebert
The WBC are termites that make their nests in loopholes. I would find it very hard to believe that Fred Phelps, or whoever organizes these protests nowadays, honestly believe in what they do.
