Dubai Police will soon use Google Glass to issue fines to errant motorists as well as identify wanted cars, said a senior police official.
The smart eyewear is currently under trial by Dubai Police Smart Services Department, for use by traffic police.

Colonel Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, General Director of Smart Services at Dubai Police, gave Gulf News a demonstration of how Google Glass would be used by the force.
Dubai Police’s Smart Services teams have created two applications to be used by their officers. “One will allow them to take photos of traffic violations from the Glass, which will go instantly into our system, and the other application helps identify wanted cars.”
Taking photos using Dubai Police’s Google Glass’ program is simple. The officer just needs to tap the side of the glass and the photo, in addition to the exact location, time and date is automatically sent to the system.
As for determining whether a car is wanted or not, Col Al Razooqi said that all the officer needs to do is look at number plates and the Glass will cross-reference the plates with the traffic department’s wanted vehicles database and alert him if any vehicle is wanted.
Both programs were developed by an in-house team from the Dubai Police smart services.
“We at Dubai Police always try to adopt what is new in the market and we like to stay up-to-date,” Col Al Razooqi said.
Another good way to waste the mountains of oil money they have
Will it have a crowd scanner for those filthy hand holding criminals?
But they haven't even finished development, right?
i dont want to imagine what dubai will look like after the money runs out.

They will carry on doing what they do, theyre smart businessmen and have secured their future without the need of oil, as of right now less than 2% of their gdp is from oil and natural gasses, the rest is from tourism and real estate.

You got wrong number there buddy
You got wrong number there buddy

The United Arab Emirates has been successfully diversifying the economy. 71% of UAE's total GDP comes from non-oil sectors.[8] Oil accounts for only 2% of Dubai's GDP.[9]
the oil goes away and suddenly mountains of sand appear

The whole 'spend money on everything' serves more of a purpose than cockwaving, it has also made it the number one rich people destination on the planet. They'll be fine.
Dubai gets all the cool shit...
Meanwhile, our cops here drive Skodas, if not something older, don't even have PCs in their cars (I think) and flip you off when you tell them someone stole something from you.
BUT GOD FORBID IF THEY CATCH YOU WITH WEED! Into jail you go, waiting for your parents!...

That's a lie.

That's 6 year old information from wikipedia which sources a pretty shit news site instead of any actual studies. You're also missing the fact that "2%" of Dubai's GDP is from oil, however 1/3 of the GDP of the country that Dubai is located in is from oil (http://www.opec.org/opec_web/static_files_project/media/downloads/publications/ASB2013.pdf)
If oil takes a hit, UAE takes a hit, which means Dubai takes a hit. Dubai can't sustain this growth without oil, even if a small percentage of the GDP of the city itself isn't stated as coming directly from oil.

I think the hardware is finalized, the rest of it can just be patched and updated as need be.
I feel like the general mindset behind Dubai is "Coruscant is fucking awesome and needs to happen as soon as humanly possible"

So buy one of those 15,000 mAh batteries off amazon for like $50 and keep it in your pocket with a usb cable running to the glasses behind your ears.
Y'know, to complete the whole cyborg thing
Its pretty sad they hand the most ridiculously expensive things out to their police force but a lot of the city is built on labor that's just a little above slavery conditions.
The police force is vannity thing then anything over there
What a waste of money, they should just hide police near the bridge connecting Sharjah and Dubai so they can fine everyone who goes into the hard shoulder when there is traffic (and I literally mean everyone)

Actually the labour conditions in Dubai are pretty decent. I talked to a taxi driver there about it. Builders are not allowed to work during midday in summer, as it's just too fucking hot. Furthermore, wages aren't that bad as the minimum is still extremely high compared to the countries a lot of the workers come from. Dubai's the shit. I mean their shopping mall has a fucking 3 story aquarium in it.

Still a place that I wouldn't want to visit considering their violations of human rights.
My brother lives in Dubai, the police recently took order of a Veyron police car.
It actually gets driven too

Workers get the day off when it's 50 degrees or above - the thermometers are always at 46 degrees though.
That and most of the works have to live in labour camps which are small, filthy pieces of brick slabbed together with no air conditioning.
I feel really bad for the labourers in Dubai, they are mostly Indians who are lied to in their country, shipped over, have their passports taken then they fulfil their contract. It's better than they get at home but they are treated like animals in dubai and as third class citizens by everyone else.

do you know how much it costs to run that kind of thing? lmao yeah right they've 'secured their future', they're just gonna bail when the oil runs out
actually here's the answer
The UAE is currently spending $800 million (Dh2.9 billion) per year on building, operating and maintenance of desalination plants which will jump by over 300 per cent to $3.22 billion (Dh12 billion) over the next six years, according to a new report by Global Water Intelligence.
I always find it interetsing how Dubai police often are first when it comes to certain gadgets and vehicles.
In fact, i actually wrote a made-up story once that took place in a dystopic Dubai (mainly because i can see it growing even larger and taller in the future) that included tns of futuristic stuff like Deus-Ex-esque armors and guns, VTOL's etc.
