The story behind it is about Obama mentioning historical presidents and similarities to himself. FOXNews then managed to make this absolutely rage inducing acticle.
During the 2008 election, then-candidate Barack Obama shocked the liberal establishment (and infuriated Bill Clinton as a pleasant byproduct) by calling Ronald Reagan’s 1980 election and presidency monumental. In other words he was a “game changing” leader, if you will.
Obama knew what he was doing, even as many suspect he is at best only a mediocre student of American presidential history.
To wit, he almost never quotes previous chief executives or cites American historical precedents to support his Jacobinistic policies.
Perhaps it is because no previous chief executive ever attempted to make Americans wholly depended upon Big Government.
Clearly, President Obama and his supporters want historians -- and indeed all Americans -- to see his presidency by the same light as Reagan’s; that his time of office will also be recorded as a political upheaval. This remains to be seen, but it is instructive to recall that Clinton was also obsessed with his place in history --calling in historians late in his second term-bewailing the fact that he never had any big crisis to confront, like some of his predecessors and thus, his eight years would not get the due he felt it deserved.
Reagan, more self-confident, never lamented to historians, instead accepting the judgment of the American people and not self-puffing elitist members of the academy.
Obama’s supporters are now bending over backwards to make the case that Reagan’s poll numbers sagged, just as Obama’s have, in the face of difficult economic times. In fact, the “Carter Recession” which the fortieth chief executive inherited was far, far worse that the “Bush Recession” that the forty-fourth president became heir to. When both took office, unemployment was around 7.5 percent. But Carter left the Gipper with inflation and interest rates raging out of control, both in high double digits. Productivity was dead, the economy in negative growth.
And yet, despite the sophist revisionism of the Obamanites, Reagan’s approval ratings stayed well above 50 percent all through his first year according to the CBS/NY Times polls of the era and by a wide margin, the citizenry saw Reagan’s efforts to wring inflation out of the economy as both necessary and needed for future growth. They didn’t always like Reagan’s polices: but they supported them.
Why?
My old friend Vic Gold, writer and historian, hit the nail on the head the other day. Obama, he said, has never sat in the Oval Office and looked into a camera and said, “My fellow Americans…” just as every president before him has, in the era of radio, film and television.
All of Obama’s pronouncements have been before a live audience or a press gaggle. Why? Because he needs the instant gratification of his elite audiences. Because he lacks the self-confidence of men such as Truman, JFK and RWR, all of whom said “this government” or “your government.” Obama says, “my administration” and “my cabinet.” He is a product of the Facebook generation, superb at self-promotion: less talented in other areas.
The differences between the 40th president and the 44th president become ever more pronounced when it becomes clear that Obama speaks mainly to the elites of Washington, New York and academia. Obama, the uber elitist, prefers the company of wealthy bankers and Washington's kommentariat.
It makes perfect sense. To him, they are his people.
Reagan, on the other hand, spoke “over the heads of Washington” to go to the American people. He preferred the company of farmer to financiers. He prefer the wise common sense of the citizenry to the wisenheimers of Washington.
The American people were his people.

I don't even know what to say. I'm not sure any of it is relevant or even true.
It's from the opinion section. That's mandatory bias right there.

Correct.
Always helpful to click the source to read the article than what the person put down.

That is why it is called Corporate media, it is all biased. No such thing as unbiased news. It is the job of the viewer to look at all sides and make his/her own opinion of the situation.
This whole "lol fox is bias" argument is getting old. Just because they're bias doesn't mean the news is inaccurate. I'm just talking as a generalization, not necessarily for this article.

Oh, you're just another bandwagoner that hates Obama. Makes sense.

Would you like me to also pull out the 193% pie chart as well?
EDIT: I'm not saying you're wrong in that Fox News is Corporate Media, I'm just saying they can't report worth shit. And they tend to have right-wing views.

Do it, just to add to the effect.
Obama is a shitty president. /fact
I disagree, I really like how he said the DEA isn't going to raid medical marijuana patients/collectives anymore. a major change from past policy.

Just for you.

Fuck people like you make me rage. You make a jackass comment then run off before you can pull anything out of your ass to back up your claim.
I'd appreciate it if you prove me wrong right now.
Obama is a shitty president. /fact
no its just a majority of the general american public are too fucking stupid and gullable to see he's actually not that bad /fact ( i said a majority alot of american posters in here excluded from this )
another fact is that he was never going to have an easy time in his first year even with such popularity due to the mass shitfest he inherited from Bush, and if americans actually took time and patience to actually see his proposals and plans and do a little RESEARCH of they're own you will see he has the right ideal's in mind other than buying into the republican biased horseshit that is foxnews.
oh and if you really dont like obama that much i'd gladly have him as a prime minister in england.

That's the definition of a troll. What do you think he was doing? Actually giving an opinion?
I can't believe he did that so simply to get so many people raging. I applaud his work.

Yeah I know. I really enjoy political discourse and I know it's possible here on Facepunch. I wouldn't mind a "I don't like Obama because of A, B, and C."
Oh, you're just another bandwagoner that hates Obama. Makes sense.
No actually i was for obama at first, i was rooting for him during the election process. I dislike him now, just like many others.
He had a 70-80 percent approval at first and now he is down to 30-40 percent. So stop with the "YOUR PICKING ON MY PRESIDENT YOU JERK" arguments and stop calling people bandwagoners. God forbid people have differing opinions. And the whole "lol obama is doing bad because of bush's previous stuff" when in fact obama hasn't changed shit, he is still using bush's policies. The only thing he managed to do is spend more money then bush has and giving government total control. Maybe i'll change my opinion later when i see him do something worth while, but i'm not going to say he is a good president because he has good "ideas" and plans. I want to see this in action, not just talk..which by the way he been talking for too long. Get to work already. I know he isn't superman but i would just like to see something good come from him sometime this year.
Is it just me or does Beck come off as an Elitists to everyone else too? This sounds like him.

So do I. I don't really give any "I hate so-so *no reason*" statements much attention, it's just that so many people were starting to respond to that simple, trolling sentence that it would of probably derailed the thread.
Didn't single you out for any reason for responding though other than you were the latest one who said something about it.
I guess the writer does Beck's script...

Well first off his approval rating is about 50%. His current average is 57% which is higher than every other president except Eisenhower (back when it was unpatriotic to question the President), George Bush Sr (Resided over boom times) and Kennedy (Arguably the only one to earn those ratings through handling of foreign affairs).

The 40% drop was because he wasn't 'moving fast enough'. He has/had to/in the process of taking care of the banks, unemployment rate, Iraq, Iran, N. Korea, global warming, a near trillion dollar budget deficit while trying to gain respect of both parties for bipartisan politics so things would move more fluidly. They also put him on a pedestal next to FDR and compared his first 100 days to FDR's. He's only one guy who has to wade through a lot of shit and red tape.
tl;dr: Obama's approval rating dropped because people are impatient.

I like Obama, and I supported him last November, but he's been a shitty president. He made a bunch of promises for hope and change but he hasn't done jack shit since he's been in office. I don't think it's in entirely his fault, there is a lot of hate on the other side, but his inability to get things done almost makes the republicans look competent.
Just look at last November's elections and the recent election in Massachusetts. It almost worries me because it looks like any possible hope for change will be gone next election when Palin becomes president. God I hope that doesn't happen.
Black people aren't magic.

That isn't do much what he is doing, it's the painting the GOP is making to warp reality and try to win back the congress. And it's working. People believe what they hear unfortunately.
As far as his promises, what exactly are you looking for?

As president he needs to be on top of this, all i see is "it isn't obama's fault" and lets point fingers at the other guy and blame him. This isn't new for a president, previous presidents delt with iraq, iran, N korea. This isn't the first economic depression in the U.S other presidents dealt with it, so i don't feel sorry for him.

If I recall correctly the Jacobins were ultra conservative. And it's not like the average fox news reader knows what a Jacobin is anyway.
