NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Conan O'Brien has signed a deal with NBC to walk away from "The Tonight Show," the network confirmed Thursday. "NBC confirms a deal is signed and an official announcement will be made this morning," said NBC spokeswoman Allison Gollust. The network did not provide details on the agreement, but the deal is expected to include a severance payment of about $32 million for O'Brien plus about $12 million for his staff, according to the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper said the pact could contain a "nondisparagement clause" for both O'Brien and the network. It is also expected to bar O'Brien from appearing on other shows or hosting his own show for a period of time, sources told the Journal. O'Brien has been at odds with NBC since the network tried to push "The Tonight Show" to a later time slot. The dispute erupted into a weeks-long controversy that galvanized fans of the show and roiled the entertainment industry. The deal, which was reportedly inked at 1 a.m. PT on Thursday, would reinstate Jay Leno as host of "The Tonight Show" at 11:35 p.m., the Journal said. O'Brien's departure comes after NBC abruptly decided to cancel "The Jay Leno Show," which had received lukewarm ratings after only three months on the air. The network sought to give Leno a half-hour show at 11:35 p.m., and then move O'Brien's "Tonight Show" to 12:05 a.m. O'Brien, who has hosted the show for just seven months, objected to the change. He said in a Jan. 12 letter addressed to "People of Earth" that moving the show back would "seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting."
http://money.cnn.com/2010/01/21/news/Conan_OBrien_NBC_severance_deal/index.htm God damnit NBC. Why did you fuck up everything and make him leave :saddowns:
32 million isn't good? It's a quite decent handshake for ending up a unprofitable show...
Rumor is, he going to sign a contract with fox soon but he may not be able to be on air until September.
In times of recession, it's good to know a single man got paid 32million dollars for talking on television
I just saw him sing about how the network sucks two days ago and turned out he made the deal?
In times of recession, it's good to know a single man got paid 32million dollars for talking on television
The invisible hand of the market is playing craps
Conan's acting like a little kid who's not getting his way. I thought he was more mature than that, but I guess not.
Here is to Conan hopefully signing the deal to go starring in a pornography!
It's funny that when things aren't working out he is at his funniest. Like now and when the writers strike was happening a while back.
Here is to Conan hopefully signing the deal to go starring in a pornography!
+1 to that sir, but I bet if anything it would be dancing with the stars.
He's not that great anyway.
He's not that great anyway.
$32 Million says otherwise.
Conan is a comedian. If you expect a comedian to act mature and polite when you fuck with them, you're in for a bit of a surprise. [editline]06:15PM[/editline] Fuck no, of course he's going to try to get laughs out of this. Of course he's going to take pot shots and pull stunts. That's what they were paying him to do in the first place! [editline]06:16PM[/editline] He shot Wax Tom Cruise and Urinal Fonzie out of a cannon, and suddenly they expect him to act mature? Jesus Christ how stupid ARE these NBC execs? [editline]06:17PM[/editline] I suppose it's all fine and good to act funny so long as the people he's making fun of aren't them.
Oh poor Conan. How bad it must be to make $32 million for not doing a show. I hope he is able to carry on with his life and $32 million. God knows how hard it is to live with a measly $32 million.

And because he, and his entire crew, uprooted their families and moved from New York to California. The dude deserves that money. He was guaranteed to be on the air, and they pulled the plug long before they were contractually obligated to.
Leno is a jackass.
Leno is a jackass.
How so? All he did was bend over to NBC executives and now they're raping Conan. Not really his fault. NBC is the one that fucked up.
Jay Leno isn't funny.
Conan deserves so much better. I've been a huge fan for about ten years and I've watched every single night. NBC = Nothing But Cunts.
Conan is getting the shit end of the stick on this one. It really sucks that's he is leaving. Now we only have one good late night show, the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Jay Leno isn't funny.
He use to be funny but his humor has gone down a great amount. I like Conan alot more, he actually makes celeb interviews funny.
In times of recession, it's good to know a single man got paid 32million dollars for talking on television
Correction... He was paid 32 million dollars to be fired.
Correction... He was paid 32 million dollars to be fired.
No he was paid 32 million to sit at home.
Jay Leno is a fat ugly pig. true story

PFFFT. Colbert>Stewart>Conan>Every other person in existence>Jay leno.
I seriously don't understand NBC, they don't get that they shouldn't fuck around with their shows. First there was Chuck, which after their second season was very close to cancellation (Understandable, they never advertised the damn show so it never got viewers. Well that and the show seems like it has the dumbest plot ever until you watch it.) and the fans got super pissed, there was a whole community backlash against it. Now they're doing it again, but more in terms of screwing Conan's contract over, and they're paying for it in the most hilarious way possible.
Yeah well they took Leno off the air when he still had it in his contract to stay at the Tonight Show for a few more months to put Conan in. So screwing up is what they do best.
Conan's acting like a little kid who's not getting his way. I thought he was more mature than that, but I guess not.
Well he was on after Leno for years and years, then nearly 5 years or so prior to Leno leaving, he was told he'd get Leno's spot on TV. It happens, he gets it, worked his career to do it, 7 months later NBC wants to put Leno back and Bump Conan back to where he was... Fuck that shit Conan says, and good on him. Also Conan argued for more money for his staff more than he argued for money for himself
