LONDON — You can learn a lot from a tooth.
Molars taken from skeletons unearthed by work on a new London railway line are revealing secrets of the medieval Black Death — and of its victims.
This week, Don Walker, an osteologist with the Museum of London, outlined the biography of one man whose ancient bones were found by construction workers under London’s Charterhouse Square: He was breast-fed as a baby, moved to London from another part of England, had bad tooth decay in childhood, grew up to work as a laborer, and died in early adulthood from the bubonic plague that ravaged Europe in the 14th century.
Hey, this is awesome, I've always wanted to know a lot about how people used to live. Truth be told, I'd have probably studied to be an archaeologist if I hadn't become a doctor :v:
Luckily you chose to be a doctor, otherwise you'd have a very expensive diploma to pay off at..
Do they have mcdonalds in india?

Yes we do, plenty of shitty ones nowhere near as good as what I had in the USA.
Oh, and money is really no objection as far as education was concerned anyway :v:

Because you come from a wealthy family or because education isn't fucknut retardedly expensive in India?

There are hidden expenses; you have to fork over a large sum of money as a 'donation' to pretty much any college you want to join up at even if you get a seat based off of your school final grades. Not to mention that sometimes you may need to grease the wheels in case trouble takes place at your chosen college too.
But yeah, we come from a background of money and education isn't really expensive on a comparative basis in India to begin with.
Are you ethnically Indian? Just curious.

I am, indeed, ethnically Indian.
Why has this turned into an "ask Zonesylvania about being Indian" thread? Just PM him.
Otherwise I had heard about learning things from a tooth, but never knew it could tell this much.
I was wondering if there are many British people remaining in India and how things are different for them in terms of growing up.
I know this is the "wrong" thing to be taking away from the article, but the whole time I was reading, I just kept thinking how insanely smart these scientists are.
why has this thread suddenly become plagued with an unnecessary topic?

omg why are you stereotyping scientists
Sorry :(
I went to uni in London for year, at Queen Mary's. There were a few old plague pits under the ground there (they're marked as consecrated ground). Saying that, there's probably undiscovered plague pits all over London
I always feel really bad for the people when I read about the Black Death. They're just trying to live their lives in an already shitty world and then a horrific and mysterious disease murders huge numbers of them.
It's always intriguing to find out what is underneath you. Especially in cities like London, Paris or any that have been around for a long, long, long time.
For some reason my mind went to "Cockneys VS Zombies" as soon as I saw the article. Can't think why. *unconvincing cough*
