"Small bomb damages Target bathroom as company faces criticism for transgender policy" - WGNtv
EVANSTON – A small bomb exploded in the women's bathroom at a Target store in Evanston on Wednesday, and officials are investigating whether it’s connected to the company’s policy allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice. Commander Joe Dugan says no one was inside the bathroom when the small explosion happened a little after 4 o'clock. It caused minor damage and no one was injured. Early indications are that a plastic bottle was used but no projectiles like nails or tacks were inside it. Investigators are gathering evidence including examining store security camera video.
The world is baffled as to the motive
officials are investigating whether it’s connected to the company’s policy allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice.
if I can't stop them from using it, I'll stop anyone from using it!!! equality
if I can't stop them from using it, I'll stop anyone from using it!!! equality
It's just an assumption dude, let's not get started on this just yet
if I can't stop them from using it, I'll stop anyone from using it!!! equality
It was likely some teenagers playing with a dry ice bomb or something, and I'm going to go ahead and guess that the "minor damage" is some cracked ceramic on the toilet bowl.
yeah I'm sure it was, I was just taking the piss
Small bomb damages Target bathroom as company faces criticism for transgender policy
That title is so sensationalist it hurts.
That title is so sensationalist it hurts.
Do you know what "sensationalist" means.
I doubt it was anything malicious, fully agree with the poster above that mentioned kids and dry ice bombs. Loud noises and bits of plastic flying around, not much else.
Do you know what "sensationalist" means.
Yes? There's no definite connection between this plastic bottle bomb and the transgender bathrooms rights thing. The title being "Small bomb damages Target bathroom as company faces criticism for transgender policy" is technically correct; the two events did occur within the same time frame. But you know the title is written to purposely connect the two together, to further news interest on the whole "bathroom wars" thing. Yes, I know what sensationalism is.
Angsty teen sets off dry-ice 'bomb' in target bathroom?
It was an ISIS attack.

(especially in journalism) the use of exciting or shocking stories or language at the expense of accuracy, in order to provoke public interest or excitement.
The headline is a one-line summary of the article that mentions the bomb then has a blurb at the bottom about Target's transgender policy. It achieves this with 100% factual information that is keeping the reader up to date, at no expense to accuracy. If anything, posts like yours and these
Angsty teen sets off dry-ice 'bomb' in target bathroom?

It was likely some teenagers playing with a dry ice bomb or something, and I'm going to go ahead and guess that the "minor damage" is some cracked ceramic on the toilet bowl.
Are injecting more bias into the story than the Target's headline does because while they stick to the facts, you are purely speculating that it had nothing to do with the boycott.
It achieves this with 100% factual information that is keeping the reader up to date, at no expense to accuracy.
Are you really going to pretend that the article title isn't written to give the idea that there's already a connection?
you are purely speculating that it had nothing to do with the boycott.
I'm saying that we don't know. There's no definite connection YET. Not that there's no connection AT ALL. jfc Articles can be written 100% factually and still be purposely written in a way to drum up certain assumptions and thoughts.
I believe it was a terrorist attack.
Are you really going to pretend that the article title isn't written to give the idea that there's already a connection?
Nothing in the article comes close to implying that so I have to pretend nothing. Even if it was doing that though it wouldn't strictly be sensationalist.
I'm saying that we don't know. There's no definite connection YET. Not that there's no connection AT ALL. jfc
Their posts are speculating about the motive, your post is speculating about the article and supposed narrative. I should have worded my post better.
A small bomb exploded in the women's bathroom at a Target store in Evanston on Wednesday, and officials are investigating whether it’s connected to the company’s policy allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice.
So apparently women can't be criminals now?
That title is so sensationalist it hurts.
A bomb explodes in a multi-billion dollar company as a response to giving special clearance to a hated group of people with a super rare illness that causes their brains and body to be mixed up
So apparently women can't be criminals now?
wat
i really fucking, hope it's not because of transgender because if so come on
It was likely some teenagers playing with a dry ice bomb or something, and I'm going to go ahead and guess that the "minor damage" is some cracked ceramic on the toilet bowl.
seems kind of risky to walk into a target with dry ice just to blow up a bathroom toilet
Probably a Works bomb... just a bottle with some Works toilet cleaner and some aluminum foil
-snip-
I doubt it was anything malicious, fully agree with the poster above that mentioned kids and dry ice bombs. Loud noises and bits of plastic flying around, not much else.
If it was a dry ice bomb it would absolutely be malicious. Those can cause serious injury to anyone nearby. When Mythbusters built one it bent metal
So apparently women can't be criminals now?
i think you may have misinterpreted that line
If it was a dry ice bomb it would absolutely be malicious. Those can cause serious injury to anyone nearby. When Mythbusters built one it bent metal
Yep, the shrapnel produced by something like a dry ice bomb is more than enough to seriously maim or kill a person.
Yep, the shrapnel produced by something like a dry ice bomb is more than enough to seriously maim or kill a person.
If you intended to make a bomb with it sure, it can absolutely be fatal. I'm talking a cheap plastic bottle with a tablespoon of dry ice and some hot water. This is the media, where a seasonal time-lapse camera is a bomb and everything firearm is an ar15.

Filling the bottle with nails, gravel or metal makes them deadly.
I'm talking a cheap plastic bottle with a tablespoon of dry ice and some hot water.
Perfectly capable of blinding someone.
Flying shards of plastic can do some serious damage. Filling the bottle with nails, gravel or metal makes them deadly.
Of which this thing contained none of those. Cheap ones will rupture at the bottom at moderate pressure, maybe throwing a few bits of plastic. If they actually wanted to hurt someone, they'd have put shit in the bottle, used a different container, or generally been smarter about making it. If anything, it was a statement made by someone with very few resources, very little planning, and even less experience. [editline]10th June 2016[/editline] Why is everyone blowing this out of proportion? This wasn't some great statement by a mad bomber with an axe to grind against target. [editline]10th June 2016[/editline]
Perfectly capable of blinding someone.
So is a handful of sand, a lightbulb, or a firecracker.
I'm hopeful this was just some idiot making a dry-ice bomb or putting a firecracker in a plastic bottle. Seriously, I'm really hoping it's not some crazy motherfucker giving a taste of what they intend on doing.
