After months of uncertainty, the Bastrop City Council has decided that a homeless Bastrop man, who found at least $70,000 worth of gold coins and cash in a park, will get to keep the money. Timothy Yost could not attend the hearing Tuesday night because he is currently in jail on a public intoxication charge. But his attorney was on hand. "It means everything to him. He has a whole future ahead of him. He has the opportunity to make plans and have a real future," said Yost's Attorney. "I've been walking for so long, first thing I want is a vehicle," said Yost. On January 18, Yost found a bag of 70, $100 bills and 40 kruggerand coins along the Colorado River in Fisherman's Park. Kruggerand coins are collector coins from South Africa. They are one ounce of gold and according to one seller's website sell for approximately $1,600 a piece According to police, the money was in a plastic bag that appeared to be buried. The dollar bills they say were cashed out from a Wachovia Bank. The money was wet, so Yost took it to a nearby bank to trade the wet money for dry money. The teller at the bank called 911, thinking he had committed a crime. Police took custody of the money. Ever since Yost and his attorney have fought to regain custody, and even sued the city. That lawsuit has been dropped. Police here tonight told council members that they reached out to the FBI and determined the money was not used to commit a crime. They then posted notices in a local newspaper looking for the rightful owner. Some people called, but none of their claims panned out. Yost will now have possession of the money within the next 48 hours. The mystery of who left the bag of money in the park continues. The Bastrop Police Chief told FOX 7 he is happy as to how this concluded as well. The chief says the city never wanted to keep the money. That man won a new life: winner!
-snip- I fail to read. It's nice to know the money doesn't just 'disappear' and the man never hears from them again.
It's heartwarming to know despite being homeless, the man still has the morals to turn it in.
I don't think he was turning it in - was he not just exchanging it for dry money?
Now that he can keep it, I hope he spends it well.
I would be him I'd focus on a home before a car. Then income.
I would be him I'd focus on a home before a car. Then income.
dont think you can buy a home with $77,000 he should buy a cheap car and live in it.
drink it well my filthy friend, drink it well
He can rent an apartment, buy a cheap car, a small television, a new set of clothing and get a job. That money should be enough to last 5 years.
dont think you can buy a home with $77,000 he should buy a cheap car and live in it.
He should definitely get a cheap car, but that will leave plenty. It won't go far into having a nice home, but if he can stay off the alcohol, he could use it for a decent trailer and suitable appearance for a job.
You can buy a car alright but he's going to need a license to drive it
You can buy a car alright but he's going to need a license to drive it
He can buy that too
Watch him blow it on crack.

Some drug lord is probably really pissed that his $70K is in some hobos hands right now.
I'm surprised no one pointed out the fact that the bag was also filled with gold coins.
Some drug lord is probably really pissed that his $70K is in some hobos hands right now.
I've never heard of drug dealers dealing in gold coin. Unless those drug dealers are Knights. That poor Knight, how will he ever pay his Dowry?
He can spend it all on very expensive midget prostitutes.
Timothy Yost could not attend the hearing Tuesday night because he is currently in jail on a public intoxication charge. But his attorney was on hand.
So they're giving all of this money to the town drunk? There's no way this could backfire.
not only that but they're south african collectors coins. fuck thats random
If they're gold coins from south Africa. It's likely some sort of blood money.
If they're gold coins from south Africa. It's likely some sort of blood money.
maybe one of those nigerian princes was actually legit for once
How does someone lose a bag full of krugerrands
How does someone lose a bag full of krugerrands
Someone's probably getting beheaded right now
or live in a crack mansion.
No more cheap crack houses for him that's for sure.
dont think you can buy a home with $77,000 he should buy a cheap car and live in it.
Rent a home for a year. There's some decent deals here and there, some with utilities even paid for, and always go for a used beat up piece of shit for a car in this case, or if you're a teenager, or have a low income job He could live on that money for 4 years if he's smart about spending
Timothy Yost could not attend the hearing Tuesday night because he is currently in jail on a public intoxication charge.
Pretty sure we know where the money is going.
Some river pirates are going to be fucking pissed when they find the treasure has been taken.
dont think you can buy a home with $77,000 he should buy a cheap car and live in it.
Any smart person would invest it.
I've never heard of drug dealers dealing in gold coin. Unless those drug dealers are Knights. That poor Knight, how will he ever pay his Dowry?
They're obviously pirate drug dealers. "Yarr, where be me booty chest of doubloons?"
