Nelson Mandela has become critically ill in hospital, the South African presidency has announced.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-23024836 Been a lot of talk of his illness lately, maybe it is finally time for him to go? - First time they're describing his condition as being critical.
We need an International Nelson Mandela day.
We need an International Nelson Mandela day.
Rise up and Tweet
He'll die either this week or next - not trying to be cynical or anything. He's a 94 year old man with a chronic lung infection that has finally gone critical. It's what is to be expected :(
Well it seems a global hero is passing Let us remember what he did and praise
George W. Bush will finally be vindicated.
Wait, he left the hospital since his last lung infection?
I think that's him on his way out now...
Well it seems a global hero is passing Let us remember what he did and praise
Try and blow up a bus and go to jail for it? It doesn't matter what cause you fight for, killing civilians for it doesn't make you a good person.
All these famous people dying recently :(
Try and blow up a bus and go to jail for it? It doesn't matter what cause you fight for, killing civilians for it doesn't make you a good person.
Where did he suggest it did?
Where did he suggest it did?

he co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1961, leading a bombing campaign against government targets. In 1962 he was arrested, convicted of sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the government, and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rivonia Trial.
From Wikipedia.

So you shouldn't really judge a person for a single act, you got to balance their good and bad deeds, and their thoughts on the role they played and how they did things to form a good opinion of how a person really is. And given the guy we're talking about is damn Nelson Mandela, I'd say he's more of a good person than a bad one. Anyway, godspeed to him.
Good. Honestly, if you want political freedom killing people is not the way to get it. And then to receive a Nobel Prize for not committing racial crimes once you reach presidency? It makes me sick. Look at the country now and tell me he was the right choice. Buthelezi was the way to go. [editline]24th June 2013[/editline] I hope everyone knows that it wasn't just one incident. Look it up, you'd be shocked what you discover. He hasn't served the country any better.

Being a symbol of Anti-colonialism, of course he's to be involved in armed resistance.
Being a symbol of Anti-colonialism, of course he's to be involved in armed resistance.
Actually, South Africa was no longer a colony, it became a republic in 1961.
All these famous people dying recently :(
because hes fucking 94 years old what do you expect
Actually, South Africa was no longer a colony, it became a republic in 1961.
It was also a racist shithole until Mandela showed up and ended it.
It was also a racist shithole until Mandela showed up and ended it.
By using racism and terrorism as his main methods until he became President. You can respect the guy, but he was an extremist who only redeemed himself after 40 years of it.

I understand why people think he's a hero and he has done alot for people. However, understand for the people who lived through the time they might not be so forgiving.
It's like if we considered Charles Manson a hero and elected him to be the president. The guy has some cool ideas and can influence others, but he still fucking had a role in killing people.
I don't know why people praise Mandela, he did the same thing Osama did - incite violence and lead/plan terrorist activities yet he's a hero who 'saved' South Africa to everyone outside of ZA.
he's considered a hero inside SA too :v:
By using racism and terrorism as his main methods until he became President. You can respect the guy, but he was an extremist who only redeemed himself after 40 years of it.
This is almost like calling out George Washington and most of the founding fathers to be terrorists. Washington pulled extreme measures to keep his men in line, Hancock made millions in today's money by smuggling, each and every one of them supported subversive activities against the British, inciting a huge scale rebellion and practically splitting the colonies right down the middle on what side to join. Fuck, even SWAPO during it's early years had a guerrilla war against the SA Army at one point and now people are having it as one of the most popular parties in SA.

Apart from Gandhi there hasn't really been a whole lot of situations where things have been changed by pure pacifism and even for India shit went south after the UK decided to shit all over the decolonization process.
