Discrimatory Tennessee Transgender Bathroom Bill Dies In Legistlation From Threats of Loss of Federa
A bill that would require transgender students to use bathrooms that match their sex at birth failed in Tennessee on Tuesday.
The bill died in a House committee meeting packed with transgender youth who opposed the measure, some of whom testified before the committee.
"It feels great to know that my voice is counting," Henry Seaton, an 18-year-old student who attends Beech High School in Hendersonville, said after the vote. Seaton, who was born female but identifies as male, testified last week in a subcommittee and then spoke to committee chairman Mark White, R-Memphis, before Tuesday's meeting.
Rick Womack, R-Rockvale, said he had decided to withdraw his support from the bill after hearing more about the issue.
Womack invited comments from Dr. John and Valerie Guenst and their daughter Jennifer, 17, who was born male but identifies as female and has been using the female restroom at Franklin High School. John Guenst said the bill would be harmful to transgender students, who already have a high rate of suicide. The family also raised questions about whether Jennifer, who looks very much like a girl, should be using a urinal in the boy's room.
Religious conservatives had pushed the legislation, which was sponsored by Rep. Susan Lynn, R-Mt. Juliet, and Mike Bell, R-Riceville. But there was concern that the proposal might create more confusion — local schools already have their own policies on transgender students' bathroom use.
"Maybe we're making things a little worse than they already are," White said of the proposal after hearing the testimony. He also said the bill would surely die later because of the potential costs. A revised fiscal note on the bill said the federal government, which provided $1 billion in education funding for Tennessee last year, could withhold future money if the legislation passed. The potential loss of federal funding was behind Gov. Bill Haslam's opposition to the proposal.
I came in here to say something that's probably been said a million times, what's stopping someone from just saying they're whatever gender so they can be a creep?
Then I realized I'm a moron because homosexuals can use the same bathrooms as the gender they're attracted to and I've yet to hear about any creeper stories or problems.

Honestly, anyone creepy enough to pull a stunt like that in the first place is probably going to end up in a similar situation all the same, just with a different excuse. It's all just bollocks
And honestly, what would they want to see in a womans washroom? All they'd be able to see are feet under stalls.

Look at this voice of logic and reason from a TN Republican. There's hope yet.
And its not as if you just say your transgender. You should be able to get a doctors note and what creeper wants that much hassle just to look at feet under stalls

To be fair, in the USA it isn't always possible to get a doctor's note. A lot of doctors still don't really understand transgender issues, though the situation is rapidly improving.

Usually they're just mirrored versions of mens bathrooms without those standing up stalls.
I don't get why unisex bathrooms aren't as big a thing yet.

A gay friend of mine would take creep shots of other guys in the changing room at the gym, once he forgot to turn the sound off his phone and it made the shutter noise resulting in him getting a dirty look.
He then raised his phone up and smiled taking another picture, pretending to have been taking selfies the whole time.
Hardly related, just wanted to share a story about quick thinking.

Yeah, it's a claim that's completely unfounded. That just doesn't happen, and if it did, the legality of it is probably not going to be a thing in their minds. And like you said, gay people do the same thing every day. And considering the only thing people do in the bathroom is piss and shit, you got to have a fetish for one or both to get anything out of it. So it's like, imagine to yourself, how many people are actually scat and piss fetishists, who can get off on hearing it, and are that desperate for it and lacking in common sense and manners that they're going to crossdress and claim they're trans solely to get in to the bathroom, but don't solely because it'd be illegal? Like, the way I see it, being generous, 5? An average occurrence of 0 per year? And that's not exactly a number worth oppressing an entire minority over.
It's just a silly excuse story used to put trans people down. I view it as if a white guy spouted off that blacks were going to rape women the moment they got to use the same restrooms. It's like, no?

iirc the statistic is more american politicians have been done in for creeping in bathrooms than transgender people
Ban politicians from public shitters
