It's just so hot, I've been looking into getting a portable air conditioning unit like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Cooler-Function-Oscillating-louvers/dp/B003UMM1SY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1309227025&sr=8-7
Anyone had any experience with these? Do they actually work for a small room? My budget is ~£75, site would be amazon.co.uk
Thanks :3:
They do work, but there are some considerations.
One, they should all have a cooling capacity in cubic feet. Amazon doesn't seem to list that but I bet the manufacturer's site does. Take a measure of your room (length x width x height) and make sure the unit is sufficient.
Two, regular air conditioners deposit water outside, portable ones can't. There will most likely be a water tray you'll have to empty periodically. The unit will probably shut off when it gets full so don't worry about spills or anything.
Three, they're pretty loud so unless you're a sound sleeper you may not be able to sleep with it on.
I can sleep with a regular fan on full, are they louder than that?

i don;t know who the manufacturer is

i was looking at this one too:

Hell yes, they are louder than a fan.
Well I'm not sure about this one but I have a 25 years old mobile air condioner, well mobile it weigh a freaking ton.
How ever, it is loud, still better than the heat but you can hear it.
Since it's a constant noise I can take it, while the clock drives me crazy.
Taking the water out isn't bad at all it's actually usefull, since they can suck up electricity you can use it as a auto off function during the night, don't empty it and when you wake it it's turned off.

that one is really good
but even me being partly deaf - i have to have it on low or off to sleep
But it can pump out a nice amount of cool air

Also depends on how well insulated the room is, but it's hard for a manufacturer and customer to know that.

This should be useful.
Also OP, do you live in a climate with cold winters? If so, head into your basement and on the back of the furnace there should be a switch to run the fan without the burner/element. This will bring the cold basement air up through the heating vents, a lot cheaper than an AC (although not as good and you're at the mercy of how cold your basement is)
