Saudi Arabia has criticised Norway's human rights record, accusing the country of failing to protect its Muslim citizens and not doing enough to counter criticism of the prophet Mohammed. The gulf state called for all criticism of religion and of prophet Mohammed to be made illegal in Norway. It also expressed concern at “increasing cases of domestic violence, rape crimes and inequality in riches” and noted a continuation of hate crimes against Muslims in the country. The Scandinavian nation came under scrutiny during the United Nations' Universal Periodic Review, in which 14 States are scheduled to have their human rights records examined. Russia meanwhile called for Norway to clamp down on expressions of religious intolerance and and criticised the country’s child welfare system. They also recommended that Norway improve its correctional facilities for those applying for asylum status. Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende was in Geneva to hear the concerns from 91 other countries. He told Norway's NTB newswire prior to the hearing: “It is a paradox that countries which do not support fundamental human rights have influence on the council, but that is the United Nations,” reported The Local.
How can anyone take this seriously? We had Kony 2012, now it's time for... Solberg 2014.
Pot meet Kettle.
Yeah Saudi Arabia you're the pinnacle of human rights abusing along with North Korea

Yeah, why isnt criticizing their magic sky fairy punishable by death? Thats some bad human rights you got there norway.
This is ridiculous.
:downs: Meanwhile in Saudi Arabia..
"Authorities continue to suppress or fail to protect the rights of 9 million Saudi women and girls and 9 million foreign workers. As in past years, thousands of people have received unfair trials or been subject to arbitrary detention. The year has seen trials against half-a-dozen human rights defenders and several others for their peaceful expression or assembly demanding political and human rights reforms."
Yeah right, come back when you've abolished the religious police and women can do stuff without facing prosecution.
Yeah Norway you're not doing it right, you're not supposed to have human rights ya know?
It also expressed concern at “increasing cases of domestic violence, rape crimes and inequality in riches”
Are you sure they weren't talking to a mirror?
I think they're just trying to be funny. They can't be serious. Are they serious?
Are you sure they weren't talking to a mirror?
Please. All three of those are at perfectly stable levels of abnormally high in Saudi Arabia.
Yeah Norway. How dare you have free speech and equal rights. Your state should obviously favor a minority population and you should obviously reform your prison systems to be gulags like Russia.
I think they're just trying to be funny. They can't be serious.
Sometimes this logic soothes me. I just wish that it was always the case :(
Are you sure they weren't talking to a mirror?
North Korea, China , Iran, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia should be the countries to decide all of these issues.
Countries such as China and Saudi Arabia participate so that they prevent the UN from taking action against them.
Shame on you for not doing enough for your Muslim population, Norway.
"Saudi Arabia has criticised Norway's human rights record" they say it like its some random dude
Can't you ban countries from the UN until they fix their own shit? Feel like some countries need it to get their head out of their asses.
Haha what on earth.
The Muslim citizens of Norway are probably safer and happier there than they are in Saudi Arabia, with all that criticism to your space man Mohammed. I wouldn't be surprised if lots of that criticism comes from themselves either, when they realize the truth and compare life there to life anywhere else...
Pentium reporting in. I had a small fire here when my irony-o-meter exploded.
Lol, is this shit for real?
I can only think of one nation with worse human rights records than saudi arabia and that is north korea
IMO religion and other ideologies should always be allowed to be fully criticised, to any extent. The whole idea of human rights should allow such criticism to take place freely, without fear of retribution or coming under physical harm. Likewise religion and other ideologies should hold no sway over government and laws, who's focus should solely be a basic and non-dogmatic level of freedom and rights for all.
Saudi Arabia believes that having human rights is in itself a violation of human rights.
counter criticism of the prophet Mohammed
How dare Norway enjoy free speech?
Europeans do treat their Muslim populations and POC very poorly. Those old colonialist attitudes are pervasive throughout Europe and white Europeans are intentionally oblivious to it. Just look at the plight of the Roma and how disgustingly they are treated. Or look at the racist Italians and Spanish who, seemingly, allow hundreds of African migrants to drown. Europe has an obligation to disenfranchised peoples, since it's mostly Europe that disenfranchised them. So all of your to quoque ad hominem responses to Saudi Arabia don't suddenly invalidate the truth behind those words.
Ya Norway stop being so progressive! This is just stupid snipping on their parts
