Actress Angelina Jolie announced in a New York Times op-ed article on Tuesday that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning she carries the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
Dude
That's some serious preventative action

With a 87 percent risk, it makes sense not to gamble
I don't mean to imply otherwise. I have to respect her decision.
Once upon a time, wasn't she considered a sex symbol, though? Quite a fall from that, I suppose.

Again... I don't mean to imply otherwise.
Asked google to give me pictures of mastectomy
it went and gave me pictures of mastectomy
I regretted asking for pictures of mastectomy
Yup. She was really hot.
Medical stuff comes first though.
Single man tear on this day :'(
i felt stupid for not knowing what a mastectomy was, then i google'd and shed a tear, good on her for not taking the risk. I was going to say other things about her being a positive sex symbol, but i feel like i'd say it in a tasteless manner, so i'll leave it at that...
Don't worry, you wont even notice with the reconstructive surgery (if she has it).
That sounds terrible. At least she has money to get some good reconstructive surgery if she wanted.
For those who don't know, mastectomy is the surgical removal of breasts.
How tragic.
Woah. That's bonkers. Teenagers across the world just had their most weathered fantasies turn sour.
This isn't going to be such of a big deal because she has the money to have them remade with non breast tissue in about a year or so.
What a shame. I'd like to hope her career won't be affected at all but I know it's not likely. I agree with her decision, tho.
good on her for having her priorities straight
Not the boobies. :(
I'd rather lop off a tit then get cancer

GOod thing there are still loads of pictures from the era when she still was hot and not anorectic.
They'll give her some implants as replacements and you won't tell the difference
A tragedy for all man-kind.
Same procedure Christina Applegate undertook, for the exact same reason IIRC.
Good on her though. Can't imagine having to undergo such an altering procedure.
Having tits doesn't do you much good if you're dead.
Honestly it'd just be downright foolish of her to not have such surgery, after learning about just how much at risk she is of it.
Cancer isn't something you screw around with. Yeah, there's a chance you can beat it, if you catch it early enough or it is fairly benevolent. But even the mildest battles with cancer can ravage your body.
My grandfather died of lung cancer, and the last three years of his life, he was more a husk that could barely speak than a person. I'd argue calling it living at all.
So good on her.
Goodbye chimichongas :(

wat
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt look like a generic celebrity couple, but they're surprisingly aware of their position in the world, and what to prioritize. They're aware that they're role models for a lot of people and use that responsibly. Lots of respect for them.
Not sure about her personal preferences, but I saw some really nice tattoos applied on women who had the same surgery to cover up the scars. Some look pretty hot too
Damn it, where is 'House' when you need him to barge in an stop a surgery due to a epiphany of diagnosis.
I can imagine how the surgeon will feel about performing this operation. Causing a disruption in the force, like if the hope of millions of men suddenly died.

Pretty sure she has a share of tattoos already.

Like a million hard-on's suddenly went flaccid.
