• Aussie doing college exchange in the US next year

Hey FP I'm a first year student at university in sydney. Next year i want to do a semester exchange in the states. All that i need to know before I apply is which college i want to apply for. While i'm in the US, my subjects are only graded as pass/fail, rather than credit, distinction etc, meaning its easy to pass. Now I'll be honest, the prestige of the uni doesnt really matter to me. I want to do this because i've always wanted to have the "american college experience", maybe ive been watching too many movies. I want a place that knows how to party, and isnt boring as hell. I'm already looking at a gpa over 3.5 so im not in danger of getting bad marks or anything. This is the list of partner unis i can choose from Arizona State University - Tempe Butler University - Indianapolis, Indiana California State University - 23 campuses - limited access to some disciplines Central Washington University - Ellensburg, Washington (No business- Econ only) Colorado State University - Fort Collins (GPA 2.75 Limited access to Business) Grand Valley State University - Allendale, Michigan ISEP - International Student Exchange Program USA - Specify campus preferences in your application Michigan State University - East Lansing (No Postgraduate courses) Old Dominion University - Norfolk, Virginia Oregon State University - Corvallis (No Business/Media, Scholarships avail.) Rutgers University - New Brunswick - (No Business) St Norbert College - De Pere, Wisconsin (No Education courses) UNCEP- University of North Carolina Exchange Program - 15 campuses to choose from University of Arizona - Tucson (No Business) University of Maryland, College Park - (No Business, Engineering, or Communications) University of Mississippi - Oxford, Mississippi University of Missouri-Columbia - Media Only University of Richmond - Richmond (Min GPA 3.0) University of South Florida - Tampa (No Media or Accounting) University of Southern Mississippi - Hattiesburg, Mississippi University of Tennessee - Knoxville University of Washington - Seattle (Min GPA 3.0; many disciplines restricted) I'm doing psych, so barely any (if any) colleges are restricted to me. I've ruled out two unis so far. Old dominion university, since i heard its mostly a commuter school, and id prefer if it was dorm/live in (all unis in australia are commuter, and believe me it is boring as hell). I know that states in the US differ way more than they do in Aus (each state over here is pretty much the same, apparently theres huge differences in culture between states in the USA) so obviously my choice of college isnt going to be easy. For the most part ive narrowed it down to ASU, MSU, SDSU and Ole Miss. These colleges seem to have the atmosphere im looking for, based on what ive heard. If any american facepunchers go to any of these colleges or know people who go to these colleges, tell me what they're like! Also if you have any advice about going to college in the states i'd like to hear it. If this thread is in the wrong section please tell me
Grand Vally State University is actually pretty good too. There's a lot of on campus dorms. You can room with up to 4 other people in a townhouse or just a regular 2 person dorm. It's a cool place. Usually at the beginning of each year everyone will keep their dorm doors open and let anyone in to meet new people and do on. There's a lot of activities too, if I were you, I would totally read up more about GVSU on their website. I have a friend that knows all the party people too. I could hook both of you up; he parties all the time. I'm not big on doing party stuff, but he'd totally show you a good time.
I've seen this exact thread before. What up with that
I've seen this exact thread before. What up with that
Threads were about the same subject, both ops were studying the same subject, its not like everyone does a completely different subject
It's all down to ASU and MSU now. Does anyone go to or know anyone from these colleges? info about what life is like at either of these places would be awesome.
ASU is a good party school
i can fill in on southern miss and ole miss. I'm trying to decide between the two myself and its very hard :( Southern Miss - everyone mostly chills around and smokes pot. very lax place. Ole Miss - some of the hottest college students in the states (and if you have what girls would call a "cute" accent, you will probably be getting laid by different women on a daily basis), some of the biggest parties in the states. You will very likely be partying rather hard every other day. Also, Greek life is very big here. I've spent my entire life around Ole Miss and Ole Miss people, so if you have any other questions about it I can answer
