one of his main complaints is that it has nothing to do with the final fantasy series. ??? in what way are any of the final fantasies connected (besides direct sequels) besides names carrying over? the thematic element of gaia and life force calls back to ff7. also i'm surprised he didn't realize that just because they're all categorized under a single name, "phantoms", that doesn't mean all phantoms are the same. i enjoy this movie and i acknowledge is flaws, but come on.

He explains that there's no semblance of magic or fantasy in the movie, and no memorable music, characters, or story.

Spirits Within might as well of been an entirely new IP with little winks and nods to Final Fantasy, but they branded it as Final Fantasy for the money. And that idea failed.
