[release]British Petroleum is sending 11 cleanup crews to Pensacola Beach in Florida after a number of small balls of oil were spotted, the Pensacola News Journal reports.
The balls were likely "weathered" oil, parts of crude that gets broken up as it mixes with water, an official from the Environmental Protection Agency told Sam Champion of ABC's Good Morning America.
The tar patties are pretty thick on parts of the beach, as much as one every foot, Keith Wilkins from Escambia County emergency management told the Associated Press.
Forecasters reported earlier that oil would reach Florida shores by the week's end.
Meanwhile, BP reported some oil was flowing up a pipe Friday from a cap it attached to its broken Gulf well but crude is still spewing, the AP reports.[/release]

Since I'm a resident of Pensacola, I may go out to the beach and take some pictures. Everyone around here is pretty bummed, the beach is about the only thing to do in this town.
If this shit follows the Gulf Stream up to Virginia and in to the Chesapeake Bay, i'm going to flip shit, our blue crab population is just BARELY coming back from what it was two years ago due to overfishing, plus all the dolphins along our coast would die, and assateague island would take a lot of damage because of it too.
This is why landlocked states are awesome; no hurricanes and no tarballs.

At least BP's trying to, and succeeding somewhat, in cleaning up the oil.
This exact same event happened in the past, and they fixed that. I'm sure they'll fix this soon.
