• High-end Build, Budget ~$1500

Hello, I'm building a relatively high end computer with a maximum budget of $1500 although I'd like to keep it near the price I have now (around $1300). Purpose: Gaming (should be able to handle all games at high settings), 3D rendering, compiling. Desired Resolution: 1920x1080p, I will be using two monitors (which I already have), but as far as gaming I will only use one at a time. I should be buying these parts by the end of the week if all goes to plan, but I will not be buying the video card until I get the money (I will be using integrated graphics until then). I've only $672 to spend now and I will be getting more before the end of the summer. Here is the build I have so far: [del]http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1awxK[/del] [del]Updated[0]: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1aye8[/del] [del]Updated[1]: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1aHdL[/del] [del]Updated[2]: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1b0eY[/del] [del]Updated[3]: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1b9Rc[/del] Final Update[4]: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1cflB and http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1326986 With a GTX 770 to be ordered once I have the money. I am only getting the blue series, because I will likely get an SSD in the future (and I only need 1 TB). I already have the operating system. I have no need for an optical drive. I would like to overclock or at least have that capability.
In my opinion: -You can do with a lower wattage PSU. 650 watt should be enough. Also check if that psu from rosewill is actually good quality. (Rosewil is good, they do have some crappy models though) -That GPU is horribly expensive. If I where you id get a 770 and spend the money you save on upgrading it in 2 years for a GPU that can easily beat your then 2 years old 780.

I should mention that I would like to have SLI as an upgrade path which is why I went for such a high wattage. I suppose one path would be to get a 770 and SLI it considering that would be only $200 more dollars than a 780. I'll probably buy the 770 and only upgrade if I want more performance. So, what wattage would you recommend for overclocking and SLI with two 770's? [editline]26th June 2013[/editline] Would this do? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182067 It's the 750W model of the Rosewill series I had listed. The thing is, the 850 W is only $10 more, and I wonder if it would be worth it for a little future proofing. Not to mention the 850 W is bronze certified and the 750 W is just certified.
Drop the i7 for an i5, majority of games don't benefit from the extra hyerthreading from the i7's. While the 770 is quite a bit cheaper than the 780, the 780 is a quite a bit more powerful and the 3GB of vram may come in handy with future games. The $200 difference is up to you. Keep in mind you do save about $100 using an i5 over i7. For power supply, a 750w would be enough to even handle 780 SLI (may want 850w if you want to do a lot of heavy overclocking). For brand, I personally like Corsair the best, and I hear Seasonic's are pretty decent as well. Very nice build quality. Your definitely don't want to cheap out on a powersupply as it can just lead to problems in the future.

Although any project I'm compiling, now that I think of it, probably won't need 8 cores. As far as 3D rendering, it's more of something I'm doing in the future and as such I can probably wait and update my processor then (or just suck it up since its obviously much more GPU intensive anyway). I guess I will go for the i5. As far as the 770 vs the 780, I suppose I'll cross that bridge when I come to it (read come across 450/650 dollars). I've changed over to the Corsair HX750W Forgot to mention I have this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153
Just to make sure you might want to select the case in PCPartPicker just in case to make sure all the parts all compatible with it.

I'll stick with my current power supply, as I'd like to be able to SLI (and its 80 plus gold). The cooler and memory are just slightly worse items than I have for less than $10 difference. As far as the Seagate Barracuda vs the WD Blue series, I'm slightly leaning towards WD, but if you think its better I can be coerced towards the Barracuda.
G45 went discontinued on newegg, and due to the 80 combo deal now also gone, I went with a GIGABYTE motherboard instead. I updated the build.
G45 went discontinued on newegg, and due to the 80 combo deal now also gone, I went with a GIGABYTE motherboard instead. My g45 is also shipping late, getting it the 5th of july now.:downs: :(

I won't be able to order until July 1st anyway. Also why is :downs: (colon-downs-colon) a smiley face??
happy down's syndrome person [editline]28th June 2013[/editline] It's kind of fucked up.
Does anyone know where I can find integrated graphics benchmarks for that i5? Edited: Found this: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i7_4770K_Haswell_GPU/1.html Pretty close especially since gaming isn't going to see much improvement between i5 and i7, and they use the same integrated graphics.

Gtx 770?
Why do you care if you have. Gtx 770?
Like I said, I'm waiting to buy the graphics card (only have around $680 now), so I will have to be using integrated for a while.
So I'm ready to order all the parts now. Do you guys think its worth waiting for newegg to get a g45 gaming back in stock or should I just go with what I have now?
Just get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130692
The only reason I was getting a motherboard even near the price of that one was because it came with an $80.00 discount that made it worth it. Unfortunately, it seems newegg has removed all of their i5-4670k $80.00 combo deals. I'm not sure they will put them back either considering it's likely they were only there to promote Haswell anyway. I'm going to have to hold out on buying this for quite a while, at least until I get more money. [editline]1st July 2013[/editline] Thanks to the advice of ClaBrendon, I'm going with a newegg combo deal and a cooler, hard drive from amazon. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1cflB and http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1326986
Anytime man
While we're in this thread, Which case would be the best choice for this build: Rosewill THOR or Cooler Master Strom Series Trooper
They both get me hard, either should be fine.
Unfortunate problems in ordering the combo deal from newegg. It appears since my internet connection cut off in the middle of a transaction I accidentally made the purchase twice. Even after making sure every purchase was clearly voided in my account history, it apparently had not updated for me to see. Does anyone know if I can return the entire combo deal back for a refund (at least partial), because otherwise a lot of money will have just been wasted considering the CPU and motherboard are marked as non-refundable. Is there any way to go about getting a refund or am I doomed to have wasted my money because of a crappy internet connection?

They've JUST shipped. The tracking number isn't even working yet. I'm trying live chat now, and hopefully I can get that refund. I don't mind paying for shipping, that's understandable. I don't want to pay $530 for parts which are useless to me.
Talking to them would probably help best. Usually Newegg has like a 15% restock fee, but they may give you a break if you tell them it was an accident. If for some reason you can't return it or something and you get stuck with it, you could probably sell it online for ~90% the price you paid with it being unused and get at least most of your money back.
Refuse one of the packages. It should return, and call Newegg for sure. They are nice and should give you a hand in understanding what happened
Refuse one of the packages. It should return, and call Newegg for sure. They even said they would cover shipping and waive the restocking fee.
Newegg has for me always had outstanding customer service when something got messed up like EVGA of online computer parts to me
The computer has been built! A cool feature I didn't know about: the PSU LED changes colors when you press the switch in the back (has blue to match the case, white, and red options). I'm going to be very sad if it isn't. I pressed Windows+P and nothing happened, of course windows isn't yet registered and drivers are not yet installed, so I can't say for sure that it is impossible.
couple things wrong here. RAM needs to be in the same colored slots, to make it effectively run in dual channel. the boost is minimum, but could cause issues. the PSU needs to be flipped upside down since the wires are farther than the cable management holes. and yes, i run my 2 monitors with one on my HDMI from my GPU, and the other runs off DVI from my mobo. my motherboard has virtu, which is what allows mine to do that. but you need the intel graphics drivers to fully open up the ability to run dual monitors
