The heart of a 900-year-old saint has vanished from Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, police and the Cathedral said. St. Laurence O'Toole's heart was kept in a heart-shaped wooden box in a cage bolted to a wall in Saint Lauds Chapel, Irish police said. It disappeared between Friday evening and Saturday noon, police said. Adding to the mystery, there was no sign of a break-in or of damage, police told CNN. Nothing was taken from the chapel other than the heart, although Irish media said there were gold candesticks and other valuables there. Cathedral staff called the disappearance of the relic "truly awful and strange" and said they were "shocked and saddened." St. Laurence O'Toole was born in 1128, lived until 1180, and was made a saint in 1225, according to the Catholic Encyclopedia. Catholics often preserve body parts from saints, believing they should be venerated. When Pope John Paul II was declared "blessed" -- a step below sainthood -- last year, a vial of his blood was displayed as a relic.
http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/04/world/europe/ireland-saint-heart-missing/index.html?hpt=hp_bn2
I'll bet they are fucking pissed as a motherfucker.
I bet some sicko wanted to run some tests on it. Baffles me how it's 900 years old though.
That's extremely disappointing. Hope it doesn't wind up being destroyed as this all plays out. Since last autumn, Dublin and Tipperary have had FOUR holy relics stolen. [editline]6 March 2012[/editline] This is the thing it's kept in:
Obviously someone ate it to gain his powers
Check under the floor boards
Obviously someone ate it to gain his powers
I wouldn't be surprised.

It's been called back to God. Go little heart go!
That wasn't beef jerky?
If those were stolen by ~militant atheists~ who want to fight religion by being dicks the world is gonna flip all of its shit very fast.
This is very sad, a religious artifact stolen. I hope it is returned.
maybe it turned to dust after someone blew onto it
If those were stolen by ~militant atheists~ who want to fight religion by being dicks the world is gonna flip all of its shit very fast.
Maybe it's been stolen by thieves who wanted to see it for ~money~ instead?

Sounds like the sort of thing Garrett from Thief would steal from Hammerites.
I'm sure they're just updating to a newer version.
The thief just needs a heart-to-heart talk and I'm sure he'll return it.

Also it's kinda interesting to have a 900 year old heart last that long. What manner of preservation did they have back in the 13th century anyway; did they just pickle Larry's heart in monastic brew, or did they already have natron like the Egyptians?
why is my birth place in the news so often

Of course I doubt anyone around here would take that explanation, so come up with your own ideas. Also, this sounds like the beginning of some historic thriller or a fantasy novel.
I can understand a market for stolen paintings and books but if this was a heist of sorts who the fuck would pay for it.
Hey guys, I've come across a religious artifact and i want to see if i can convert people like Age of Empires. Any advice?

Satanists are going to use it in an ancient summoning ritual to bring forth Baal and his demon army. The sky will rain molten lead, the seas will turn to blood. They will spare neither women or children. Our only hope is Captain Planet and the Planeteers.

Atheists strike back in retaliation for the destruction of Piss Christ.
It's obvious where it's gone- the Dovahkiin has taken it to craft a Daedric sword to slay more dragons.
