According to Tunisian media, a court has ordered the Tunisian Internet Agency to block access too all sites with pornographic and adult content, following a lawsuit that argued the sites were contrary to Muslim values and posed a danger to Tunisian youth. Under the previous regime, Tunisia operated an extensive Internet censorship program that blocked access to many sites and services. That censorship ended with the overthrow of the regime in January. However, if the current court order is upheld, it will mark the second time Tunisia has enacted Internet censorship since January. Earlier this month, a military tribunal also ordered the Tunisian Internet Agency to block access to specific sites and Facebook profiles. The majority of Internet traffic in Tunisia is handled by a single ISP, providing a single control point at which URLs and other specific resources can be blocked. According Tunisian Business News, seven of the top 100 sites visited by Tunisians since January are pornographic sites. After January’s “Jasmine Revolution,” noted Tunisian blogger Slim Amamou had been named junior minister for youth in the country’s new interim government; however, he resigned this week, criticizing the country’s Internet censorship.[/release] "Quick, somebody, please think of the tunisian children! :downs:"
Oh look, a religious country taking away peoples freedoms!
Banning is bad but also is porn I guess. I look at it anyway though! edit: the ban shouldn't have occurred though
Somethings bad for some people lets take freedom away from everyone.
Its not surprising, these aren't going to be traditional Western Democracies.
Its not surprising, these aren't going to be traditional Western Democracies.
Hard to even call the country a democracy to be honest.
“Jasmine Revolution,”
Sounds like a porn star :v: the first part, at least.
"hey guys let's try to repress what people watch and use! This totally won't bite us in the ass later!"
I dedicate my life to making up for their no-fap country.
What happens if you google boobs
What happens if you google boobs
You get life in prison.
No they haven't. Not possible that they have banned every piece of pornographic material on the internet.
So about that revolution for freedom. [editline]30th May 2011[/editline]
Hard to even call the country a democracy to be honest.
It isn't really at the moment, I haven't been following that closely but I believe its still in a transitionary state.
No they haven't. Not possible that they have banned every piece of pornographic material on the internet.
I admit their determination, but yeah, they'll never succeed in that. Unless they keep a strict whitelist of websites allowed. But then they'll only have access to 25 or so useless sites then.
I don't see how restricting access to items considered immoral can promote certain values, and I don't see how it can ever be argued to make society better. Freedom of choice is the largest factor in real moral action, and imposed restriction does not help people make the "better" choice, rather it gives them no choice. Someone who is surely a devote Muslim will certainly choose to not look at pornography and that is a moral choice as they are choosing to abstain from something they consider to be detrimental despite it being widely available. Eliminating access to items has no moral justification in that any moral action is dependent upon the ability to choose the immoral action. I see this to be a justification to censor the internet rather than a justification to help keep the population clean. In the US, it is likely that there will be proposed censorship to secure our national security. I think there has been, but I can't remember.
Is this another 'EAT DA POO-POO' moment?
After January’s “Jasmine Revolution,” noted Tunisian blogger Slim Amamou had been named junior minister for youth in the country’s new interim government; however, he resigned this week, criticizing the country’s Internet censorship.
Did I read that correctly? Instead of using the government position to try and change the policy, he resigns? How the hell does that help things?
Seems like they've cum to a premature solution. Will it be hard to overcum this ban?
how the mighty have fallen
cum at me bro [editline]29th May 2011[/editline] don't be so mean to me :smith:
We should air drop thousands of Playboys into their country!
Again, the country is still going through a transitionary stage firstly. Secondly its not going to be a western fucking democracy. Those ideals we have? You know all those freedoms and stuff? While it would be awesome, and I mean fucking amazing awesome if everyone though everyone should have them. They have a different cultural system, they have a different way of life compared to us. You have to give these kinds of things to time to take place peacefully, or you could go in and cause lots of blood shed a la Iraq and change everything and even then its not sure if it'll hold. The long peaceful route is most often the best route.
cum at me bro [editline]29th May 2011[/editline] don't be so mean to me :smith:
Don't worry JDK, I still love you. And I'm sure quite a few others do too.
PRESIDENT TUNISIA PEOPLE ARE WATCHING PORN ...SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING. is it just me of does "President of X" when X =/= America just wrong?
is it just me of does "President of X" when X =/= America just wrong?
If you mean sounds wrong, then no. If you mean something else, then I don't get what you're trying to say.
they'll have porn dealers, like drug dealers except they deal porn. they'll also have porn labs and cops will bust the porn labs and say on the news "2000 playboys were found on the fappers hideout last sunday".
I'm sure Tunisia people already have a long list of webproxies, ready to use...
I'm sure Tunisia people already have a long list of webproxies, ready to use...
proxies will do absolutely nothing if they're running their own internet [editline]1[/editline] never mind, confused this thread for the iran thread
proxies will do absolutely nothing if they're running their own internet
Article doesn't mention that... although they do mention almost all internet traffic goes through just one ISP... :/
