I never played Mario Maker, but since everyone is hyped as fuck about it I'm curious why it's so good?
I'm curious because Mr Bunnyhop's video makes it look like a more limited LBP which I didn't expect at all.
Just made the hack community bigger and more accessible.

wow I didn't know Mario Maker didn't have checkpoints. That's pretty shit.

Also the way item blocks work is not right.
In Mario games, if you had the mushroom power up and hit an item block, it should give you a fire flower or cape or something; if you were little Mario and hit an item block, it would output a mushroom.
In Mario maker, this isn't the case. Item blocks do not vary depending on Marios current state, so if you put a mushroom in a block, it will always output a mushroom even if Mario is big. And the same with other items; small Mario can get an item block with a fire flower
I'm hoping they'll have DLC to correct this. The game is still amazing
I don't know about the point you're making about items. It feels like they did that intentionally. After all, it'd be pretty confusing if you put a feather in an item block, and a mushroom comes out instead.

Well it's how the series has worked, but simultaneously it's not that big a deal for the short stages of Mario Maker where nothing carries between them. Since any power-up will make you Super Mario (plus the power-up) it doesn't matter much, but it does mean there's often an excess of superfluous mushrooms.

I feel that you should be able to control it. If you meant to put a feather or mushroom in a block, it should output that. However, if you want to put a fireflower that changes to a mushroom depending on Mario's state, then you should be able to do that as well.
Mario Maker is missing some features but there's so much you can do with the game right now, and I'm pretty sure they confirmed the game is going to be getting more in the future.

I'm pretty sure they did this because people would be making levels where a powerup is required and they want it accessible at all times, so having to put both a mushroom and a cape everytime might be a waste
I do think they shouldve made it an option though
