• How do I get motivated

Hey, I'm wanting to start working out, trimming a bit of flab and gaining some muscle, but the thing is, I don't have any motivation. I weigh 146-Lbs, which for a 16 year old isn't really much, but most likely none of it is muscle. I mean, I'm not fat or chubby by any means, just have a bit of overhang that I'd like to get rid of. I'm pretty self conscious which probably stems from me being shy around ladies (but that's for another place on FP) or that I have KP (http://www.keratosispilaris.org/). I've been meaning to get one of those pull/chin up things that you put on a doorway, but I'm not sure if they cause any frame damage, and we are renting an apartment, so I don't want that to happen. So, What's a way to get me motivated, or a pretty cheap way to exercise? I like doing Chin ups since I enjoy hanging from things, and it makes me feel less fatigued while doing whatever it is that I'm doing it. But the way I mentally work is that I don't feel like running unless I'm in danger, and I don't like my face being near the ground so I end up abandoning push ups and stuff. I've already completed my required high school Gym class, and won't do weight lifting since I don't want to be embarrassed that others can lift way more than me, but I will do that in the comfort of my own home.
Discipline, force yourself to do it, motivation will come as soon as you start making gains and become more self confident. The only one that can truly motivate you is yourself.
It's going to be hard in the beginning, but when you start to see results it'll get a lot easier.
Sounds like you're being a big baby in every way imaginable. Sack up and lift some weight.
Just start working out. Doesn't matter how, just do it. The longer you think, the less you'll do it.
srsly, getting started is the hardest part. as soon as you see your first gains, however small they may be, you'll be hella motivated. tru story
I have never really done any sports or anything besides this because I never felt motivated, but I never really want to skip a work out session because I can so easily see the results.

Set a goal and reach it. Don't take in account what other people say, just keep doing it, because YOU enjoy it. When you enjoy something truly, you might won't like the criticism, but you'll keep doing it.. because you find it enjoyable no matter what other people say.

Would running up and down the stairs be a good start? Do I keep going if I get out of breath (which is like four runs)? [editline]18th March 2011[/editline] I just did 62 runs on the stairs (counting up and down), with five pushups each time I got to the top. And when I finished that, I did 20ish sit-ups. Is this a good start?
Depends on how long the stairs are. You're not going to get a lot of muscle from running, but you're going to lose fat and get in better shape. [editline]18th March 2011[/editline] Keep going when you run out of breath, because that's when you start gaining something from all the running.
[editline]18th March 2011[/editline] Keep going when you run out of breath, because that's when you start gaining something from all the running.
To be honest this isn't true and most effects you can see from doing an activity like that can be linked to AMPk release.
What I mean is, if you're not pushing yourself you're not going to get much better.
The ability to do higher amounts of cardio are mostly physical and not mental.

When I first started working out, it was because my girlfriend at the time had a crazy ex that she had to get a restraining order from and I wanted to be able to fuck him up just in case. I WAS FUELED BY RAGE AND PASSION. The best way to get inspired is to just enjoy pushing yourself. Compete with yourself and push your limits.
and look in the mirror post workout feels good
How do I build up motivation to ignore the most intense pain ever and go on? Thinking about girls is old. That was my only motivation to workout through pain.
I think you're doing something wrong. It's supposed to hurt, but not be the most intense pain ever.
Is it normal to be able to feel your heart and get a stomach ache? I did have a heart problem when I was younger. Not sure if that matters.
I think you're doing something wrong. It's supposed to hurt, but not be the most intense pain ever.
It does hurt. When I want to reach my tenth rep, it'll start hurt so fucking much, it's like my arms are gonna disable at any moment.
You all describe it as the most intense, knife-penetrating, gun shot, acid burnt pain in the world. It's the good kind of pain.

Post a picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger on your mirror or wall and look at it while doing exercises.
