Now if I had to take a pick. Robert De Niro.
In terms of bad-ass characterization, I'd have to say Marlon Brando, if only for his iconic place as the most recognized crime family head in the film industry. Al Pacino is also up there.
Al and Marlon. De Niro is a close second though.
Al Pacino, all day, every day.
Seriously, if there was one man I were to go gay for, it would be Al Pacino.
They're all great, but my favourite is Pesci. Some of them might be better at acting tough or intimidating, but no one is better at playing a complete psycho like Pesci
pacino
Pesci or De Niro, love them in Scorsese films.
Al Pacino is supreme in this field.
-SNIP- forgot about godfather jesus how could i
Al Pacino, definitely.
oh wait
De Niro all the way man he has the looks he talks like it and has the style of it.
James Gandolini is great too, Tony Sorprano is an amazing character and well acted.
You forgot Carlito's Way for Al Pacino.
pesci or most of the cockney thugs from guy richie's lock stock films. (i know they're not "mob" but they're still organized crime.)
i also like tony soprano and his goons. the way they pronounce stupid fuck, while subtle, is fuckin great.
[editline]18th June 2011[/editline]
my favorite scene though was joe pesci in casino when the guy's not talking
says something along the lines of
"you stupid fuck, you ain't gonna talk? look at yourself, i've got your head in a fuckin vice!"
God, all of them are good. It's hard to choose.
They're all great, but my favourite is Pesci. Some of them might be better at acting tough or intimidating, but no one is better at playing a complete psycho like Pesci
exemplified when he talks about people comin after him in some movie
ends with something like, you get a bat? i'll come back with a gun, you got a gun? well you better kill my ass cause i'm gonna keep on coming back till you're dead.
THAT is spirit my friend
Dude, why the fuck isn't the canoli listed under The Sopranos? He was in like, very other episode.

I just noticed how much Carlo Falcone from Mafia 2 looks like De Niro.

As far as best character, I'd say Gandolfini's Tony Soprano, because of the quality of acting and how multilayered and realistically flawed the character is. But as far as "badass" then yeah probably Pacino in Godfather.

I like Joe Mantegna :unsmith:
Al Pacino and Marlon Brando.
Though DeNiro is pretty amazing too.
Scarface.
i actually think i like tony soprano as much as i like all of joe pesci's roles.
he's pretty fuckin smart, but he masks it so well.

If you think about it the name of the film applies as much if not more to Michael / Al Pacino since he is the one taking over as the Godfather

yeah but he wasn't so tough in Baby's Day Out.
also Robert DeNiro wasn't so badass in Rocky and Bullwinkle.
ahh I'm just being pessimistic. They're both great.
Di Nero or Pesci.
I'm torn between them.
De Niro was a bad motherfucker in The Untouchables and that should be in the op
If it counts.

Also Al Pacino.
Either De Niro or Pacino. Honorable mentions would be Pesci, Brando and Liotta.
