The IGN review (also in progress) presents one of the worst issues with it if you compare it to literally any other game where you have levels and ranks then seperate trackers for certain classes and weapons that eventually give you rewards relevant to them:
That means despite enjoying and wanting to specialize in the Heavy class, it took me nearly a dozen loot boxes to actually find a card for it. I could craft cards for the Heavy with the small amount of Crafting Material I had collected, but so far I’ve been able to create nothing above the weakest versions. Even then, I had to craft a bunch of cards I didn’t actually want in order to level up the Heavy to the point where I could equip three cards at a time for it.
The system alone is madness that complicates a standard which was hammered out years ago by chucking in multiple currencies which the game feeds through one-off comps from challenges before it dries up, rank requirements and most egregiously, random chance governing what you get and how much progress you get out of a crate which takes around two hours to get. After all, you could get the iconic Ion Shock™ emote or more credits to buy more crates instead of a new Star Card or crafting materials so you can do anything with the class.
