[quote=KSTP]Former Minnesota Wild forward and New York Ranger Derek Boogaard was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment Friday.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirms Boogaard's body was found in a building in the 400 block of 1st Street North. The cause of death has not been determined.
In a statement, the Minnesota Wild said Boogaard "will be greatly missed here in Minnesota and throughout the NHL. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Boogaard family during this tragic time of loss."
Boogaard played for the Minnesota Wild for the first five years of his NHL career. He left as a free agent to sign with New York.
In a statement, New York Rangers general manager Glen Sather called Boogaard "an extremely kind and caring individual. He was a very thoughtful person, who will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."
During his tenure in St. Paul with the Wild, Boogaard grew into a true fan favorite. He only scored two goals in 255 games for the Wild, but earned his reputation as one of the toughest players in the NHL, amassing 544 penalty minutes.
Boogaard was 28 years old.

A life taken too soon, it makes me sad

It's wierd because he isn't the guy who would look like a drug taker, unless there was foul play.

Considering hockey isn't an easy sport to play, and you basically use your body as a battering ram, I wouldn't be surprised to see these men dying young, though 28 is waaaay early. probably pulled a Heath Ledger.

544 minutes for penalties and 2 goals...Probably had an angerysm. Still, he was far to young to die.

Poor guy. He's young and was living a good life.
Fuck, I hate to hear shit like this.. Saw it last night on Sportscenter when I arrived at my buddies house ready to party. Put me in a bad mood for the night. R.I.P Derek Boogaard.

He probably had a cardiac arrest
With that concussion report I'd say that he probably died from brain swelling, which is the primary reason for deaths within concussion victims. Since you can't feel it until it's too late to call an ambulance, you're basically fucked.
