When upgrading from XP to Vista, do I get Windows 7 Upgrade?

I always thought that the upgrade version of Windows 7 was for Vista only, but apparently you can use it with XP as long as you have your key for it. I just want some clarification as google hasnt helped at all. I have my XP CD key but i'm running the windows 7 RC. I know I'll have to reformat and start from scratch.

Title: I don't understand. You don't get it for free. You have to buy it from retail or get the OEM to ship it to you. Post: What you said is correct. You can "upgrade" XP to 7 with a fresh install if you have XP.
