They've already escaped political persecution or tragedy. Seems strange to call them refugees at this point. From what I understand they're already allowed to stay in France and are treated well.

Played this game once called Distant Worlds where eventually this race of aliens appeared claiming to be refugees appeared in the galaxy, so I was like OK sure whatever. They colonized some undesirable planets in the galaxy... and kept on growing and growing, outpacing all the other civilizations and nearly myself. Their economy was impressive, and military might immense. Then they declared to the galaxy who they really were - and we were plunged into a galactic war.

That's an interesting way of being kicked out of the country you've been allowed to stay in while you take refugee.
