Railworks 2 Makes It Into Top 10 Most Downloaded Games in the World (Not a Joke)
A virtual train set produced by a Chatham company has made it into the top 10 most downloaded games in the world by selling 40,000 copies since it was launched in October.
Players of Railworks2 simulator can select a variety of railway tracks across the world, and choose which locomotives they want to run on the lines.
According to the firm RailSimulator.com, which also has development offices in Guildford, there are serious commercial uses for the game too.
Director Paul Jackman said: "With the help of the Scottish government we modelled the Glasgow airport rail link, now unfortunately in real life they've had to cancel that, but you can still drive their vision in our simulation."
After being the butt of many jokes for so long, it turns out it's quite popular!
40,000 copies sounds way too small to be in the top 10.
I was just about to say "they probably didn't take Steam into consideration" but then that guy said that it went off rocketlike in Steam.
It may be the butt of jokes but when i tried it out it was pretty fun. It was like a better version of OpenTTD only you controlled the train.

Plus making stupid lines is always fun.
I have never heard these jokes before actually.
I used to play Trainz simulator but the Railroad Tycoon Series is very fun as well.
There's a rather large market for Rail and Flight simulator games, as you can tell by the massive amounts of DLC available. Since Railworks became Steam-Only, all of the people who would normally buy the game have ended up HAVING to re-download Railworks 2, so it's no surprise.
I know I bought both games and all the DLC three times just to prove my worth to RailSimulator.

It was mainly just people mocking each other for playing it.
Isn't the DLC for this worth like $800 overall?

The game plus all the dlc is $960.41 USD
Theres something strangely calming about playing train simulators. But I still can't believe that less people got the STEAM version of MW2 than railworks.

948,870954 U.S. dollars at least euros to dollar.

I still don't get why a company would make a DLC for a single goddamn train or a trainstation, and sell it for 15 bucks. And what kind of mentally diseased person would actually buy it.

Think of it as a train set in real life, you have to buy track and trains for it, but with Railworks it's easier to do because it's all virtual.

That's because everyone else bought black ops, so the chart was actually a top 2.
I bet that everyone who bought it was a middle aged man going through a mid-life crisis.

the jokes are mainly with the dlc s

$15 for a train is nothing, real model trains can sell for over $50+ just for the locomotives, and you need the carriages.. It's an expensive hobby like most hobbies are.
I would totally try railworks if they had a Mag-Lev DLC, so I could zip around everywhere lightning fast. Doesn't seem like they have such DLC.

It has the capabilities to do so if you learn the mod tools.
I don't even know anyone that plays this game

Well, a lot of people here do
Apparently, it's a great game
Closest I've played is Spirit Tracks :saddowns:
With all that quality DLC, I'm not surprised.
who are these people.
40,000 copies? Minecraft did more than half that in a single day not too long ago...
40,000 just seems like an awfully low number to be in any Top # of Downloaded games
Didn't know that there were that many kids with aspergers.
The article is badly worded.
Since last month it's had 40,000 purchases via Steam.
They're basing this around games in the genre, not every game.

Railworks 2 Makes It Into Top 10 Most Downloaded Games in the World
Not a hard copy, digitally bought and downloaded.

That's still a really small number to be top 10 I think.
