The Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (DXM) Thread! v2 - General

[h2]CHECK THE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS, DO YOU SEE ANYTHING OTHER THAN DEXTROMETHORPHAN? DON'T TAKE IT![/h2] [B][U]What it is[/U][/B] DXM hbr (short for "dextromethorphan hydrobromide") is a drug found in OTC ("over the counter") cough medicines. In small, medically recommended doses, it acts as an "antitussive" and restricts the body's cough reflex. At higher doses (anywhere from 5 to 50+ times the normal dose) it acts as a dissociative hallucinogenic drug with effects similar to ketamine and PCP (two drugs which are very illegal to use recreationally.) Nothing terribly special compared to other drugs really, until you consider the fact that DXM as a recreational substance is almost completely uncontrolled, especially in the US. DXM can be found in more than 140 cough and cold medications available without a prescription. What this means, basically, is that you can walk into almost any store with about ten dollars, take a stroll through the medicine aisle, and leave with enough pills to (relatively safely) trip balls for about eight hours. [B][U]Where to get it[/U][/B] Ideally, if you're planning on chugging syrup, get it from Walgreens. They have grape and orange flavored store brands which contain no menthol, no medicines other than DXM hbr, and a fairly potent 15mg of dxm per 5ml of syrup. Walgreens also carries gelcaps containing dxm. Alternatively, syrups, gels, and Zimax can be purchased at places like King-Soopers, CVS, Wal-Mart, Safeway, etc. etc. DXM can also be purchased from some drug dealers, either after it has been extracted, or in pure powder form. I've heard that some online pharmaceutical manufacturers sell pure powdered DXM in bulk, but A) Taking powdered DXM results in much faster absorption, which makes for a harder and sometimes less enjoyable trip, B) Powdered DXM can also be difficult to measure properly. With gelcaps and syrups you'll always know exactly how much you're getting, and C) I have no idea where you'd need to go to purchase DXM online. For the sake of simplicity, I'll mostly be sticking to the store-bought methods of using DXM. OR, you can try buying powdered DXM from online supplier. [B][U]What to Expect/How to do it: Dosage[/U][/B] When you get into dosages of DXM things can get complicated, and this is the main reason I'm making this thread, so pay special attention here if you're planning on using DXM. Some people may tell you to simply "Chug a bottle of cough syrup" to get high, but "a bottle" is a useless unit of measurement with DXM. This is because, depending on the bottle you grab, DXM content can range anywhere from more than 700mg to less than 120mg. If you want to use DXM intelligently, figure out your [B]body weight in KG[/B], learn to [B]multiply/divide[/B], and get used to reading "[B]active ingredient[/B]" labels and paying attention to [B]bottle sizes[/B]. I'll begin with the "plateaus." DXM trips are divided up into four different plateaus of effects based on how much DXM you take and how many KG you weigh. [B][U]1st Plateau:[/U][/B] 1.5 to 2.5 mg/kg (100-170mg for a 150lb (68kg) person) You'll have a slightly intoxicated, light headed feeling and will be distracted easier. Your mind will wander more freely and you will experience slight music induced euphoria. [B][U]2nd Plateau:[/U][/B] 2.5 to 7.5 mg/kg (170-500mg for a 150lb (68kg) person) Similar to being stoned and drunk. Heightened music euphoria (if you like music, you'll LOVE music on this dose.) Mild hallucinations, especially with eyes closed. You may have a trouble chatting due to slight confusion and will probably be slurring words. Short-term memory loss is not uncommon at this dose, and will likely be impaired (yet another reason why in-depth conversations may be difficult.) [B][U]3rd Plateau:[/U][/B] 7.5 to 15 mg/kg (500-1000mg for a 150lb (68kg) person) Very intoxicating, strong hallucinations, especially CEV's (Closed Eye Visuals.) Things may be become very confusing as your thinking processes are disturbed. For example, you'll get lost easier if you're walking around, you may wonder how you ended up in the room you're in (even if you've been there for hours) and timelines become distorted ("Wait, when did we get here?" or "How long has that dog been here?") You'll have intense hallucinations and CEV's in dark spaces and will be able to daze-off into your own world, and get lost in your own mind. Third plateau trips can be unpleasant for an inexperienced drug user, but wildly gratifying for anyone looking to get fucked up and have a good time doing it. [B][U]4th Plateau:[/U][/B] 15 to (LESS THAN) 20 mg/kg (1000-1300mg for a 150lb (68kg) person) This is a sub-anesthetic dose, similar to taking a high dose of Ketamine. Your mind and body become seperated at this level and it can become dangerous psychologically, and physically. You should probably never go this high, as it can be very dangerous. If you do dose this high, it's wise to have a sober someone, preferably someone experienced with DXM, nearby in case you start to feel legitimately like you're going to die. [highlight][U][B]DEATH: 20+ mg/kg:[/B][/U][/highlight] (1360+mg for a 150lb (68kg) person) This is the point at which a dose of DXM becomes very toxic and kills you. [U]Now, what is this [B]mg/kg[/B] you keep seeing?[/U] "8mg/kg" is another way of saying "eight milligrams of DXM per kilogram of body weight What this means is, if you weigh 68kg (about 150 pounds), you'll multiply that by eight (68 x 8 = 544), and that number (544mg) is the amount of DXM a 68kg person would need to ingest to get 8mg/kg (a low 3rd plateau trip) in his system. To get your weight in KG from pounds, divide your weight in pounds by 2.2. (Or if you don't feel comfortable doing that, use [url=http://www.ilpi.com/msds/ref/massunits.html]this online calculator[/url].) If you have any questions about the dose you should take, don't hesitate to post and ask here. [B][U]How to do it: Medicine types[/U][/B] When you go to purchase your DXM, there are a few things you need to consider when picking out a medicine. Note that if you are under 18 you may be unable to purchase any medicine containing DXM. If you're under 18 don't steal it, you're the reason DXM is so hard to get. Also it's not worth it to risk getting arrested just to get high. If you can't find someone over 18 to buy it for you then don't do it. The most important thing you need to look for is the "Active Ingredient" tab on the medicine's label. Ideally, you want to see "Dextropethorphan HBr, 15 mg ... cough suppressant" as the [B]ONLY [/B]ingredient. [B]Guaifenesin [/B]is a secondary ingredient in many cough syrups and won't cause immediate harm to you, even in large doses, but will likely make you throw up. Other ingredients like [B]decongestants, antihistamines[/B], and [B]analgesics [/B](painkillers like acetaminophen/paracetamol) at these higher doses WILL destroy your liver and kill you, so avoid recreationally using medicines with these drugs at all costs. Second, decide how you want to take your DXM. Your three main options are gelcaps, syrups, and throat spray: Gelcaps: Although gels aren't the most economical option, after over a year of using DXM I've found gel-caps to be the easiest, and simplest, store-bought option. Gelcaps come in bottles of 20.. and with 15mg of dxm per gel, that's 300mg per bottle. Syrups: The cheapest and most readily available option. [B][U]Always [/U][/B]pay close attention and read the active ingredient list before you use syrups. Usually, syrup potency is 15, 10, or 5mg of DXM per 5ml of syrup. You want that number to be as high as possible, as a higher number means less chugging to get your DXM, so shoot for 15mg/5ml. Syrups containing menthol can cause nausea. Delsym "12-hour relief": A different sort of DXM "Dextromethorphan [highlight]polistirex[/highlight] equivalent to 30mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide" per 5/ml: Delsym contains dextromethorphan "[B]polistirex[/B]," which absorbs differently from dextromethorphan "[B]hydrobromide[/B]." Basically, the "polistirex" part means that the microscopic particles of dxm have been coated in an edible plastic coating, making the medicine take longer to absorb into the body as well as making it last longer than the usual "hydrobromide." I don't have a lot of experience with DXM polistirex, but the few times I've tried it, I was disappointed, because taking 900mg of DXM poli feels about the same as taking 300-450mg of DXM hbr and stretches it out about 1.5 times the normal length of a trip. Most Delsym bottles contain 145ml. At 30mg DXM hbr equivalent per 5ml, the entire bottle has 870mg of DXM in it. This means, if you're 150 pounds (about 68kg) the entire bottle would normally be just under [B]13mg/kg[/B]. However, since it's [B]poli [/B]instead of [B]hbr[/B], you'll probably feel more like you've taken [B]4-7mg/kg[/B] and it'll last [B]hours longer[/B] than you may be used to. Unless DXM poli is your only option, I'd recommend simply sticking to hbr instead of poli. (Remember to always look at the active ingredients on the back of the box before you dose. An initial clue as to what contains poli instead of DXM can usually be found on the front of the box: look for a slogan like "8 hour relief" instead of "12 hour relief," as the 12 hour is usually DXM polistirex, and 8 hour is DXM hbr.) [B][U]AVOID DXM if you've taken any sort of antidepressant drug (MAOI, TCA, SSRI, SNRI, etc)[/U][/B], as DXM may interact with these drugs and cause [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin_syndrome]serotonin syndrome[/url]. Also, [B]don't drink alcohol[/B] heavily, if at all, while you're on DXM. Dex + alcohol will often = lots of[B] puking, trembling, undesirably extreme confusion[/B] and generally having a lousy experience likely ending with a [B]hospital visit[/B]. [B][U]HELPFUL LINKS AND TIPS[/U][/B] - If you take 25mg-50mg of DPH (Diphenhydramine) 30 minutes before dosing it will dramatically reduce nausea. Although be warned, it will add sedation to the comeup. Don't let yourself fall asleep and waste your DXM. - Can't handle chugging syrup or eating gels? Try this trick out: get three cups, fill one up with milk another up with water, and pour that nasty syrup in the last one. Take a big spoonful of peanut butter and coat the inside of your mouth with it. Knock back the syrup as quickly as possible, then chug the glass of milk as quickly as possible, then take some of the water and swish out your mouth. Do all this while you have your nose plugged. i tried this shit once and I thought I was going to die since i took like 15 different pills so i went to sleep. the next morning though when I went to school I still felt the effects all morning. needless to say I had a very interesting day at school.

First time saw dragons, second time, itched like a motherfucker. still looking around for gel capsules instead syrup, makes me gag thinking about the taste.

If anyone in Australia is looking for the right type of cough syrup to take, I've been using Robitussin Dry Forte Cough and it's been working good (plus I'm still alive :D) The only active ingrediant in it is the DXM. But I'm thinking of ordering some powder online. People really look down on you if you say you've been taking cough syrup rather than just "DXM" :V

But if you say DXM they either don't know what it is or don't associate it with cough syrup like I said above.

And please post what you are planning to buy before taking it, make sure DXM hbr is the only ACTIVE ingredient and that its not DXM poly-whatever.

You can buy it at any age in Australia at any pharmacies and it's about $14 a bottle where I get it from.

After researching a lot I am doing this tonight starting on the first plateau, ~150 mg (I'm 77kg) Wonder how it will be.
