When I turn on my PC everything works fine until maybe 3 minutes in, sometimes more, two of the back USB ports just stop working.
I have 4 ports on the back, I use 3 of them. One is for an external hard drive and two are for mouse and keyboard. The external hard drive still appears to work fine (though it is powered separately, if that matters) but both the mouse and the keyboard just stop working.
I tried to plug them into the front 2 USB ports instead to see if that was the problem. The mouse worked fine in the front ports but the keyboard refused to work in one but it worked in the second one sort of. It would type but it was lagging INCREDIBLY. There was at least a space of 5 seconds before what I typed appeared, and even then it was only some of the letters. I also tried the keyboard in the spare back USB port and that did not work either.
Here are my PC specs:
Mobo = MSI H61M-E33 (MS-7680)
Graphics Card = AMD Radeon HD 6770
RAM = 4GB DDR3 RAM
CPU = Intel i3 2100 3.1 GHz
PSU = Corsair CX600
Hard Drives = 500GB Seagate (http://amzn.to/LpGFWt) and a 2TB Western Digital (can't find a link to it)
Anyone have an idea of what the problem could be? Personally after Googling around I am leaning towards a mobo failure but I really hope that is not the case as it would be a pain to replace.
Can easily be buggy USB drivers in Windows.

How would I go about fixing it? I tried re-installing the drivers for the keyboard when it was part working but then it just appears as an unknown device and it can't find any drivers for it.
Try unplugging the hard-drive and leave only the mouse and keyboard connected. I once had a problem similar to this and found that unplugging a device would free up the others, likely a power issue.

This is really odd. I tried what you suggested and it seemed to work but after properly testing the keyboard it is acting very very strangely.
I can type out like normal but it will randomly leave huge spaces like I just held the space bar for a few seconds (for example "Once upon a *10 spaces* time").
EDIT: It's not just the space button, it seems like it just types normally but then will "lag" and cause one button to act like it is being held down
Is this a driver issue then? Or would this still be caused by the PSU?

Deja Vu, the computer that I tried this on had this same peculiarity as though the key was stuck. I can't remember how this was fixed unfortunately. My money is on the PSU; not necessarily a bad PSU, but it may be there's not enough power being supplied by it to power everything. The video card alone takes up at least 450 of the 600 watts supplied by it.

I have had this computer for coming up to 2 years now and the only change I have made was adding another internal hard drive maybe a year ago. After all this time would that not mean that it has enough power and is more likely to be just a problem with it?
So in summary I am going to need a new (maybe more powerful) PSU right?
That's what I believe it is at this point, but before buying anything it'd be best if we could get some kind of confirmation that power is the issue. For instance, you could try removing one of the internal hard-drives (or rather, just unplug it from the motherboard) and if that fixes it it will confirm that power is the issue. Otherwise, you could try another keyboard if available and see if it has the same problem, or try checking the keyboard typing settings on your operating system and see if there is anything to be done there.
The video card does not take up 450 alone. The 780ti only takes 250 iirc. That's the recommended total for a system with that card and its extremely generous for multiple reasons.

Ah, you're right. I mis-read the specs on that one, foolish mistake on my part.

So is the PSU still likely to be the problem or is it more likely something else?
UPDATE: I bought some compressed air and cleaned out the insides of my PC to see if that helped at all, it didn't but hey at least it's cleaner now.
I didn't mention this before because I thought it was unrelated but it my monitor has also acted weird recently. It was the first thing to act weird actually, first it went all grainy and had moving lines on it like an old TV but nowhere near as bad as that. After a while the screen would go off but the PC would stay on for another 5ish minutes before it shut itself off as if I had held the power button.
I unplugged and re-plugged my VGA cable and that made it work OK for a few days, then the USB things started to happen. After this the monitor has done the same thing once but not since.
Do you think this is related to the problem with my PC or just a coincidence? If so would this still mean that my PSU is the problem?
Sorry to ask all these questions, I just want to be 110% sure its the PSU before I purchase a new one.
Are you running Windows 7? because it's known to spontaneously start having bizarre USB problems that can't be fixed without reinstalling Windows entirely.
I've had it happen to me a few times and did a bit of research on the internet and other people have had similar USB issues in Windows 7 that for no reason randomly start happening and nothing seems to fix the problem (reinstalling USB controller drivers, software changes, etc.)

This is probably a dumb question but is there a way to reinstall windows without losing any of my programs or data? So that it is basically exactly the same as it is now but with windows reinstalled?
Also do you think that the monitor problem I mentioned above your post is relevant or just a coincidence? Thanks for the help guys.
You can reinstall Windows on top of itself, but you'll want to do the clean install so it doesn't use the same Windows folder. The only problem with that is applications that use the registry will stop working and will require a reinstall.
Wow, so I just tested another keyboard but it was a PS/2 one, I tested it anyway and it works.
I have a USB to PS/2 adapter so I used that on my current keyboard and it seems to be working too.
I just spent the last 4 days trying to fix this, reinstalled windows and all of my settings etc.
Still don't know what the problem was but it works now so whatever I guess.
Thanks for everyone's help though!
