Hey, My mom is currently using a shitty compact e-machine computer and I wanted to upgrade it a bit for her. All she does is stream and download movies and play some minor casino/puzzle games I would like to keep it under $300 We have a good keyboard and monitor, but she needs a new mouse. Can someone put up a few good builds that I can choose from? Even a prebuilt is fine as long as it has at least 1TB
Check out the xbox one. sorry
I think a dual core APU rig would do just fine.
Here is a reference I put together: This should be good for your mother. Only problem is I couldn't get it lower than $397.06 I don't know if you want to re-use something or not, which makes it quite tough.

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ $271, no optical drive, I'm assuming she'll be playing facebook games, this one should be perfectly up to the job, motherboard apparently has some compatibility issues, but as long as you flash the bios you'll be safe
That GPU was the cheapest partpicker could find.
Its a professional graphics card for CAD and OPENGL work. Its absolutely horrible for anything else. An i3-3220 and its HD2500 card should be enough for movies and simple games like that.

I think if you're going down the Intel route its worth the extra few quid for the i3-3225. I have one and it performs so much better in games (and even just web browsing and Windows UI) than the i5-3470 I have because of the GPU.

Not HL2.
