Got some issues with my house and the way it's laid out, heaps of brick walls. An entire wing of the house doesn't get wifi, so we really need to get something done about it.
I've seen my huge school tackle this issue with what looks like this (different model if it's what I'm thinking of):

If I'm correct, this is wired to the back of the router, and acts almost like a new router/modem but just piggybacking/using the main one?

I also need a way to split one ethernet into two. Is that possible, like a USB hub? Need at least one cable for our SmartTV and another for this access point thing if it works..
What you are looking at is an wireless access point, which acts like another (wireless) entrance to the network. A wireless router is just a combination of an access point and a router (routers without wireless capability and only ethernet/wired internet do exist). Yes, that should fix your problem with the Wi-Fi not reaching those rooms, you just need to somehow connect that with an ethernet cable to your router. You should not need something as expensive as what you linked to though.
As for the way to "split" one ethernet into two, you will want what is called an ethernet switch. Make sure to check the speed depending on what you will be using it for (gigabit or not).

Alright, cool! Connecting the access point won't be an issue and I'll look around for a access point and switch. Cheers man.
As for the access point, get this. It gets fantastic range and has superb reliability. I've installed a few hundred of these from single AP setups to 100+ on one network.

I have a similar issue, where the TV and consoles in my basement struggle to connect to the network, which is being broadcasted from one floor up and several rooms over, ~100 feet away
Are there any cheaper options for home use if i just want to connect a TV/game console?

If you can't run a cable there its probably your best bet. 100 feet is stretching it for distance on one of those even if your house construction is brick or plaster or similar. They're only $100 USD though, the site I linked was AU.

Thanks a lot. Any advice on Lite vs. LR vs. Pro?

The lite is a waste at less than $20 cheaper. Really an inferior product. The pro is a bit of a waste for your uses too. It has slightly less 5ghz range but has 3x3 MIMO which is really only necessary if you've got a 500+mbps connection coming into your house. Last gen the LR's were really underwhelming as they came in 2.4ghz or 5ghz models but the AC model is dual band. I just installed 9 of them at a hotel last week and it covers the entire place.

Good stuff. Appreciate it, man!
Depending on how cheap you want to go / need to go you can use pretty much any old wireless router you have sitting around the house.

You then only need to run a cable to said router then an extra one from the router to the smart TV
