Liverpool teenagers sentenced for homeless man's murder
Three teenagers who murdered a homeless man in Liverpool for a dare have been given custodial sentences.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Kevin Bennett, 53, was attacked as he slept outside a supermarket on 17 August.
He suffered a fractured eye socket, a collapsed lung and a broken ribcage and died in hospital six days later.
Brothers Connor and Brandon Doran, aged 17 and 14, and Simon Evans, 14, were told they would be detained until the home secretary approved their release.
Connor Doran, labelled the "leader of the pack" by the judge, was sentenced to a minimum of 12 years.
Evans was ordered to serve at least eight years and Brandon Doran received six years for acting as lookout during the attack.
The three boys, who all denied murder, were found guilty in February following a four-week trial.
The Doran brothers' mother, Linda Doran, 42, was jailed for 30 months after being convicted by the jury of perverting the course of justice by providing false alibis for her sons.
Her eldest son, Ryan, 23, was convicted of murder and jailed for life in October after he attacked a stranger with a bottle in a chip shop.
Another of her sons, Jordan, 21, was jailed for six months in February for contempt of court after using a mobile phone to capture images of the courtroom during the trial of his brothers and mother.
The judge described Linda Doran as a "pathetic and tragic character".

Good. Fuck people that do stuff like this, 12 years is a good sentence

couldn't agree more. how do you fuck up bad enough to produce 3 literal murderers
Pretty shoddy mum. When three of your four kids are killers, it's probably a good sign that you've gone wrong somewhere down the line.

Not trying to flame here, but I strongly disagree. Everyone involved doesn't deserve to see the light of day again.
The next time Mother's day rolls around,
I'll tell her, "atleast you didn't give birth to three convicted criminals.
The most you can have so far is one."
Every now and then justice is properly served, and I smile a little
Old, homeless and beaten to death while sleeping. what a terrible way to go, poor man.
All that for a game truth or dare game? Wow

You know something is wrong when truth or dare goes towards hurting and killing other people.

In the boys' defense, they may have been triple-dog dared.

They're teenagers sentenced to twelve years for murder. If anything, they probably would've been given longer sentences by other judges.
It's not like they're going to die in prison or anything.

I wish they had to.

Yes, let's lock people away forever in a deep dark hole never to be seen again because that's a useful and productive thing to do. Good old Biblical justice hallelujah.
I was pleasantly surprised to see their pictures in the paper today, named and shamed (not to mention properly sentenced) - often they don't do it if they're under a certain age

If it were someone you cared about who got murdered, you would realize how stupid that really sounds. Not to mention I am not religious so....
If you are found guilty of a crime then you deserve no less than an equal punishment to what you committed. And eye for and eye doesn't always make the world blind; sometimes it rids it of filth like these kids and mom.

That's exactly the reason victims aren't allowed to pass sentence, because they don't believe in objectivity or forward planning or society - so any hurt feelings on their part don't matter. I'm sorry, but it's the truth.
They're 14 for god sake. No I don't believe in an eye for an eye, especially when they're still children. They'll probably be completely different people after their very long sentence, and if they're not, then they at least should be given the chance to be rehabilitated and released. Prison doesn't disappear.
Punishment is not justice, it's revenge. Justice is making sure what that person did is never committed by them again - either that's because they're stuck in a cell until death or they're changed as a person.
Glad to know murder is okay as long as you are 14. I missed my chance, damn it!
The entire family gets incarcerated. Quality family bonding time

Yeah, fuck rehabilitation let's chop some heads!

What you said was deep and shocking and I'm glad to hear that statement it's changed my ways.

14 is not considered a "child", he, and they should know right from wrong, even if they have a shitty life, and mom.

A 14 year old should know not to murder somebody because it's a horrible thing to do, but it is no old enough to be able to judge them for the rest of their life.
I really hope that woman stops breeding.

I don't care what age the person is, 12 years in prison for murdering someone isn't enough.
I don't care what age the person is, 12 years in prison for murdering someone isn't enough.
Especially a homeless man sleeping.. I have bad judgement but seriously what the fuck makes you think or even want to kill an innocent bystander.
I don't care what age the person is, 12 years in prison for murdering someone isn't enough.
What will adding more arbitrary numbers on top of that achieve, in real terms? Maybe another 1, or 4? It's not going to change the fact that this messed up kid murdered somebody. That's over. But for a 14 year old kid, who already had no family, 12 years in prison will be a long time. He'll practically miss his entire teenage life and miss being a 20-something.
It doesn't excuse taking a life, but 12 years is a long ass time in a tiny cell - it's not like a short holiday in the alps.
That's what happens when you go out for a bit of ultraviolence.
The mom is a rough looking 42. Drugs and alcohol rough, I'd guess their routine was this: Mom gets wasted, her sons do whatever they want to amuse themselves. With no guidance, they have no futures, with no futures they don't care about anything. Next stop- murder.
What a pathetic family.
The mother should of gotten a much longer sentence, she raised 3 murderers and then tried to cover for the murder of an innocent man just to protect the children that she raised into killers.

Sorry but not everyone had the life you had. You probably never had a murderer for a brother, a terrible mother, and a piss poor life. These kids probably weren't that educated, most definitely had a fucked up moral compass thanks to a certain parent (Their mom), and might not be that mentally developed.
You're saying they should never have the chance to live their life? Maybe prison will fuck them up further but people can change and they shouldn't be locked up for life just because they had never been taught to value life.
Maybe you would never think of doing something like this but try to put yourself in someone else's shoes before judging them. I think the sentence they got was pretty fair considering they're kids and hopefully they'll learn to regret what they've done.
