Bill Gates thinks the modern-day flush toilet isn’t good enough. Most of the developing world can’t afford to use it, and poor sanitation spreads diarrheal diseases. So the Gates Foundation is challenging universities to build a better toilet—latrines that are hygienic, generate energy and don’t require running water or a septic system. The foundation is giving $41.5 million toward that end, andproposals include toilets powered by heat, microwaves or solar panels. A sustainable toilet could save lives in developing countries. Poor sanitation leads to many diarrhea-related deaths every year, according to the World Health Organization: “Worldwide around 1.1 billion people lack access to improved water sources and 2.4 billion have no basic sanitation. Diarrhea due to infection is widespread throughout the developing world. In Southeast Asia and Africa, diarrhea is responsible for as much as 8.5% and 7.7% of all deaths, respectively.” Some 2.2 million people, mostly children, die each year from diarrhea, according to the Word Health Organization. Bacterial infections, such as those caused by E. coli, as well as viral and parasitic infections account for many of the cases. Contaminated water can spread these organisms when used for bathing, drinking or cooking, and can penetrate the food supply when used for irrigation.
Source: http://www.latimes.com/health/boostershots/la-bill-melinda-gates-foundation-toilet-20110720,0,6498243.story Fuck yeah bill gates!
I've said it once and I'll say it again. Bill Gates is an awesome guy.
I love that man.
And this is why Bill Gates will always be an infinitely better person than Steve Jobs. You can argue all day about comparing product quality, but at the end of the day both men are filthy rich but there is no Steve Jobs Foundation to help bolster third world countries. You don't hear about any of Microsoft's plants dealing with rampant suicide.
I am speechless, that is just so awesome.
Since Gates doesn't work on Windows anymore, he is missing the days when he was working with shit. [sp]I kid, I kid[/sp]
You don't hear about any of Microsoft's plants dealing with rampant suicide.
Source? I seem to have missed that story

I'm pretty sure he can make this happen.
Will it run Windows 8?

Dell and other manufacturers also used that factory. I cant wait to take a dump in a futuristic crapper!
Makes sense. Why use vast amounts perfectly drinkable clean water to clear away crap?
i always thought there shouldve been an individual lever to push for piss and shit. i mean your flushing away the same amount of water for a huge turd just for a tinkle of piss. just saying
bill gates needs to put bidets in every toilet in the world [editline]21st July 2011[/editline] I love bidets
I watched a documentary on this. Yea they have it...not about Bill Gates but the toilet part. This would also do great for the environment and help clean the water as in places next to rivers most of the people especially in Southeastern Asia use the rivers and creeks as their toilet. God dont even start on India.
i always thought there shouldve been an individual lever to push for piss and shit. i mean your flushing away the same amount of water for a huge turd just for a tinkle of piss. just saying
A lot of toilets have that. My toilets all have that
Since Gates doesn't work on Windows anymore, he is missing the days when he was working with shit. [sp]I kid, I kid[/sp]
I'm a PC. And I found that really funny.
A lot of toilets have that. My toilets all have that
Must americans don't upgrade their plumbing that often, only when something breaks.
Remember kids, sanitation is what's extended lifespans in the first world so much, not medicine!
And it will resuld in toilets eating people. I will keep my old toilet.
yknow i have always thought this-in case a toilet ever reaches a 3rd world country, bedazzle it
Remember kids, sanitation is what's extended lifespans in the first world so much, not medicine!
uh okay sanitation is a big part of it
Can't you just use the piss to flush away the shit?
not enough pressure dawg that's why most waterless toilets are pit toilets... no water pressure needed
Remember kids, sanitation is what's extended lifespans in the first world so much, not medicine!
It's a mixture of both actually along with dental care.
uh okay sanitation is a big part of it
I think your sarcasm detector got a false positive [editline]21st July 2011[/editline] Good sanitation is extremely important for public health
From computers and software to toilets. That man is my hero.
