Keratosis pilaris (KP, also follicular keratosis) is a common, autosomal dominant, genetic follicular condition that is manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin. It most often appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms (though the lower arms can also be affected), and can also occur on the thighs, chest, hands, and tops of legs, flanks, buttocks, or any body part except glabrous skin (like the palms or soles of feet). Less commonly, lesions appear on the face, which may be mistaken for acne. Keratosis pilaris is completely harmless; however the condition can contribute to or exacerbate depression and anxiety.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratosis_pilaris
There are several different types of keratosis pilaris, including keratosis pilaris rubra (red, inflamed bumps which can be on arms, head, legs), keratosis pilaris alba (rough, bumpy skin with no irritation), keratosis pilaris rubra faceii (reddish rash on the cheeks), and related disorders.
I have keratosis pilaris alba. My skin on the tops of my legs, thighs, and arms are as rough as sandpaper. It makes me feel insecure sometimes. Especially with how it looks...
[img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22706967/IMAG0032.jpg[/img_thumb]
So I must know, does anyone on Facepunch here share the same condition as I? I really want to know how common it is.
So can you actually sand things with it?
That sucks. How common is it? I don't have it personally.
So can you actually sand things with it?
No, but I can annoy people by scraping plastic edges against my arm and make a really annoying sound. :v:
Rub it against somebody's face instead
So that's what that is, my arms look like shit.
Did/do people call you the sandman in school?
I'm homeschooled right now (for other reasons) but when I was in regular school, no, I wasn't teased about my skin. Which was surprising, really.
No, but I can annoy people by scraping plastic edges against my arm and make a really annoying sound. :v:
um thats fucking disgusting
um thats fucking disgusting
Exactly. If I wanted, I could make it snow with my arms. It's a good way to make people go away you don't want around.
Exactly. If I wanted, I could make it snow with my arms. It's a good way to make people go away you don't want around.
its a good way to make everybody go away because you are scraping dead skin everywhere like a fucking circus sideshow
Huh, I have apparently got keratosis pilaris alba on the back of my upper arms, always wondered what those bumps where about.
I don't have it i think...
Aren't you the guy with ADHD, level2 dyslexia and some other shit?
its a good way to make everybody go away because you are scraping dead skin everywhere
Exactly the point. Though I do it very rarely because it's obviously not good to do, kind of hurts and makes a mess... Any more I just do it to make my brother go away. I don't want to hear him stand around and talk about wrestling and his weird real-life roleplaying D&D stuff all day long. [editline]17th May 2011[/editline]
Aren't you the guy with ADHD, level2 dyslexia and some other shit?
Well I do have ADHD but I never said anything about dyslexia...
I have it pretty much everywhere. Got it from my mother's side of the family.
Well here's the weird thing for me... My mom didn't have it, my dad didn't have it, my brother didn't, nor my grandparents from either side or their mothers or fathers.... We have NO idea where it came from for me. I was just the unlucky bastard.
I have it on my biceps but if you care for it well enough you can keep it to a minimum. Wash thoroughly (maybe even roughly) and moisturize. I haven't gone to the doctor about it because it's not that big of a deal and I hate going to the doctor. And that is just disgusting, why would you do such a thing?
Well here's the weird thing for me...
And that is just disgusting, why would you do such a thing?
What would you do if you wanted someone to go away that kept talking about something you didn't give a single fuck about. I can't throw shit at my brother or he'll punch me, and if I just kindly or aggressively ask for him to shut up and leave, he completely ignores it. So I take the immature route and gross him out. v:v:v

Why would he he you if you throw something at him but not when you're dumping your nasty skin flakes at him? I'd be less likely to fight over something thrown at me than that shit.
snip doublepost
Why would he he you if you throw something at him but not when you're dumping your nasty skin flakes at him? I'd be less likely to fight over something thrown at me than that shit.
Because he goes "EW EW EWWW" and dances around like a little girl, arms flailing and then swiftly walks away. 25 or so years old and reacts to things like a 5 year old.
I have it pretty much everywhere. Got it from my mother's side of the family.
imagine her cunt...
I have it mildly on upper arms, and some of chest/shoulders. But they just look like tiny skin colour/slightly red bumps, not as bad as the OP's.
this has to be the most gross thread I have ever read
So you don't grow any hair on your arms?
ask how common fordyce spots are on facepunch and you'll get a much more hilarious answer.
Thanks man, in 7 years i've been looking for an answer to the red shit on my arms, and you just popped up randomly on a fucking internet forum. Thank you so much!
