Currently has SoundMAX digital audio installed. Have tried Realtek AC97 and Realtek HD drivers.

This isn't my computer help out my aunt with upgrade from windows xp on here and vista on her xps.
Uhh, so what is actually the problem?
I'm guessing the sound isn't working?
If it's a prebuilt computer, go to the computer manufacturer's website (NOT the sound card manufacturer's) and download the specific drivers for that computer from their support section. Often the drivers offered by the card manufacturers work worse than the ones provided by the computer builder.
If it's not prebuilt, poke around in the Device Manager and see what it says about the sound card.
We'll be able to help you most if you tell us the exact type of sound card (or computer, if it's prebuilt) and the exact type and version of driver you're using.
