Hello Facepunch,
I have came to you for help. Just now my phone has died -- the charger refuses to charge it and it's beat up, has no back, and just sucks (It was the LG Xenon). So I have now came to you. I am going to have to pay for my own phone and plan, so I'm wondering if I should just go to T-Mobile and get the Samsung Galaxy S 4G (budget is [b]$99).
Also, any good ideas on spreading the word of a helper? (for money purposes, I can't get a job yet, I'm 15)

I was also thinking about the HTC Inspire.
[editline]8th June 2011[/editline]
(might rise my budget to $199; iPhone 5 (when it releases this summer most likely) or Galaxy S II (obviously will probably choose Galaxy S II))
Galaxy S II.
I am not even going to bother saying the Iphone 5 is going to be much more worth your money than the average competing phone but those that hate the iphone blindly (most of fp atm because the iphone is an apple product (even more of a valid reason)(not)) dont know what it is like and trust the reviewers that were basically sony ericsson, google, nokia employees that were hired to talk shit about the phone with stuff that even exist as problems on the other phones but are hardly noticed and its just like that on the iphone.

Not out in the States yet.

do not listen to this guy, he is an idiot
seriously, he is recommending you a phone that doesn't even exist yet and is defending it against arguments nobody uses

Dear Civil,
Usually with a phone you want to customize it, change themes, lockscreens, browse the internet the way it´s meant to be with flash player, use the phone as mass storage, have an open source OS, lots of developers that release bug fixes and improvements for your phone.
Oh wait, you cant do that with an Iphone.

this is why apple users have a bad reputation
Lol, Civil is following me on my posts rating me dumb everywhere... gj

Galaxy S I is still a great phone.
If you want the phone equivalent of a prison get an iPhone. Just don't listen to Civil, but do some research of your own before you commit to anything

And thus jailbreak was invented
I am looking for a phone.
My budget is under 100 U.S. Dollars, but I want an android phone.
And thus jailbreak was invented
I don't see how the existence of jailbreak will make the iPhone 5 any less non existent, which was what Civil was recommending him to buy.

Shit I just want to make phone calls.
...I may never own a smart-phone.
Galaxy S I is still a great phone.
I'd get a Nexus S over the Galaxy S though.

Good, you'd be wasting money on functions you'd never use. I dislike it when people buy smartphones because they think it's starting to get necessary.
There's a reason why dumbphones exist, and it's not just ''to give people with a lower budget a cellphone'', for example I'd never take my smartphone with me if I went skiing.
Not really directed at you, just speaking generally here :v:
AT&T doesn't have unlimited internet plans. If you are a heavy internet user, go for a higher data package or get T-Mobiles unlimited package. For phones, well it depends? Most people use Android. I currently have an htc Inspire and I love it. I also had the LG Xenon too. I love Sense UI from htc, even if it bloats up the RAM usage.
I was also thinking about the Nexus S. The Galaxy S's interface looks a lot different from most android phones and I dislike it.

Can be easily swapped for an alternative launcher, and pretty much everything in TouchWiz apart from the launcher is a step up from stock.
Try them out and decide for yourself. Typically on Facepunch you'll get a bunch of people talking about how Android's the OS from heaven because it's open-source(!!!!) and generally making the iPhone seem shit thanks to its closed nature. What maxolina said is probably quite a good example of this. I like both Android and iPhone and really think it comes down to personal preference. Pick whichever one you prefer - you might not give a shit about how Android is open and all that. Then again, you might decide iOS is too rigid for your liking. Just try out some display devices or borrow one off a friend and make your decision via that, I'd say the Facepunch forums are a pretty poor place to get advice on phone brands.

These are not the only two operating systems in existence, if you're going to support an open mind, then please suggest more than two.
That's true, I was just covering the two of which seem to have the most bias for or against on here. There's always the other OSs too!

I'm getting this omnia 7 soon, it's 330$ on amazon, and I love the WP7 OS.
It also has AMOLED screen

Unlike the HTC variety of Windows phone 7 phones, you cant upgrade the space in that phone. In say the HD7 for example, you just open the phone and pop in a 32gb micro sd card..

Actually, I wouldn't recommend using SD cards with WP7, the OS supports them, but very bad things can happen to the phone if you remove it, I think Microsoft doesn't like SD cards, I don't know how it works with the mango update.
Anyways this phones has 8gb of space which is more than enough for my needs, and once again a gorgeous AMOLED screen (the same from the galaxy S)

Galaxy S/Nexus S have SAMOLED displays. If it's actually an AMOLED display, that's the previous generation and reportedly isn't nearly as good.
I had every single iPhone model.
Then I bought a Nexus S yesterday.
Get the Galaxy S II. It's just the best phone out there right now. Even when iPhone 5 comes out, iOS5 isn't impressive.

but don't get an HD7 though, the screen is awful
Windows Phone wise, I think it'd be smart to wait for Nokia's Wx line if you wanted to wait to begin with. Nokia already makes excellent hardware.

Like webOS, Symbian and WP7.
Though regarding those, I'd only get WP7 after it gets its software up to par (it's getting some nice updates soon, if not already). I'm also waiting for Nokia's MeeGo.
Go for the Samsung Omnia 7 if you're looking for a WP7 phone. Believe it or not, the WP7 phones which use MicroSD for storage are slower than the ones which use NAND flash.

I've got the Omnia 7 and love it. I think the HD7's build quality feels better, but it's also fairly bigger.
Depends on what type of person you are, if you've got the tweaking/customising mindset than get an android (I'd recommend the Galaxy S). However if these things don't matter to you as much and you just want a solid phone that's seamlessly integrated with it's software then go for the iPhone.
Here's some dot points for android:
- Generally cheaper (depends on the phone)
- Easier to tweak, but provides a less consistent user experience as a result
- You can install anything on it, not sure if that's a plus when it comes to security but I'm sure you're smart enough not to install ANGRY BRDS 3 FREE ONLY NOW GET QUICK
- Flash—although really when was the last time anyone needed that?
- You don't need to pay to develop for it
and the iPhone:
- App review process keeps a fairly high standard of quality
- UI consistency
- Integration with iCloud and free messaging to other iOS devices come Fall (iOS 5 release)
- Generally more polished (Ice Cream Sandwich looks slick though)
- Easy to sync music, movies, podcasts and so on to.
- Probably works better with OS X due to document syncing, similar approach to UI design and better interconnectivity overall.
But really as long as it's running Android, iOS or WP7 it's really up to you what you pick. Just play around with each OS, research them and come to your own conclusion instead of having people on an internet forum shout at each other and push their opinions on you.
