It's a Dual core 3.2ghz CPU, is it really even that bad?
Everyone tells me that it's junk, But is it really?
I get 140 fps in TF2 with my 9600. Sometimes less sometimes more.
And sorry for making so many threads, I've just been curious on what to spend my money on.
It is a good CPU, I had the 6000+ and I was able to play GTA4 on high settings at 1920 x 1200 with a 9600gt, maybe a ram/graphics card upgrade would be more useful to your situation
Yeah I'd say it's still a pretty good CPU. My mate is still using one and he plays Crysis on full with no AA at 1440x900. He also does alot of rendering in AFX and Maya. I used to have a 5600+ and that was a kick ass CPU only recently swapped it out and I miss having it. Thanks to AMD BC you can get some very nice motherboards to sit it on too.
That's what I currently have, And it's a very good Dual Core CPU
It heats up like a bitch though
What sort of cooling do you have on it? I had a Zalman 9500 on mine and it got to about 40-50 tops?
I've also heard that this CPU is basically unable to overclock?
There's no fucking way you get 140+ FPS in TF2. Maybe on an empty server on low settings.

15 fps.

Yes, from what I remember the 6400 was just a factory clocked 6000. Not sure how much more you can squeeze out of it, but probably not much.
15 fps.
generous

Your stupid, I hate when people who probably never have even owned this hardware before, automatically amuse what there capable of, and what there not.
I get between 70-200 fps, deal with it if you don't believe me.

Uh you don't need to own hardware to assess its performance. There are these things called benchmarks.
Your answer has changed once now and it's still wrong.

Look at what it's being compared to. I have a Q9400 @ 4GHz and two 4890s in CrossFire (940MHz Core 1200MHz Memory) and I average around 60-110 FPS maximum settings at 1680x1050 with dips into the high 40s on 32 player servers.

People run at different, resolutions, different clock speeds, different settings, and such.
A benchmark isn't going to tell you EVERYTHING. And I keep a close eye on FPS, and my one 9600 and 6400+ has never even gone under 42fps on 1680x1050.
Overall I think you should be aiming to get a new CPU, however you'd probably also need a new motherboard as well, so unless you have at least $250 then I wouldn't worry about it
Yeah, what's your point? Those were benchmarked to test the CPU, older games with lower settings and a very low resolution ensure to show the largest difference in framerate between the CPUs.
You're telling me you don't use maximum settings?
And now you're just pulling random numbers to try and appease me, but you're still too high.

I run on max. 16xQ AA. Just did the tests, AVG FPS: 96.6 Min 39.8 Max: 147.2
Are there any games in particular you want to play?
Uh... What timedemo did you use?
Are there any games in particular you want to play?
Well, Crysis, Crysis 2 when it comes out, in DX 11 mode, All my source games run extremely well already, especially CSS. Just Cause 2, and some other newer titles.
I'm already Ordering a 460. Would it be enough? My 9600 isn't serving me well for most newer games.
A 460 probably isn't going to cope well with DX11 Crysis 2.

Crysis 2 is going to be a better optimized game, apparently, the recommended requirements are even less than the first one.
They need to dumb it down for the 360 and PS3.

DX10 and DX11 recommended requirements are quite different, and no they aren't "dumbing it down" for the 360 and PS3 it's just a better engine.
Sorry mate, your CPU has no chance with crysis 2. You could download the just cause 2 demo and see how it looks though
JC2 sort of runs, I got 17.93 fps on it. A new video card should bump it up past 30.
With everything on highest and 4xAA
It was good 3 years ago

I couldn't even overclock my 6000+ without getting a BSOD.
OP: That's a very good CPU and it shouldn't give you any problems while gaming.
So is there gonna be much bottle necking with a 460?
Quite a bit.
Would this CPU solve the problem?

Yes.
