• How to not boot from PXE 2.0?
    9 replies, posted
So, my dad gave me his old ass computer, and it is booting via a network card and PXE 2.0 on Windows XP. I tried changing the boot order, and pressing CTRL-A or CTRL-S but nothing happens, what do. (never worked with PXE before, also complete newbie with networking)
You may need to disable network boot in bios of the computer. The simplified guide how to do that is here.
Didn't work, also went into Intel Network card manager or whatever and tried that but it is still booting in PXE, I also disabled all devices except for the HDD, still booting in PXE.
Did you try spamming Escape while it's trying to PXE boot? Works on the HP Laptops where I work.
Reset the BIOS by disconnecting the power and removing the on-board battery for 5 min.

Bump, really would like to get into this computer without PXE.
Gonna bump again, really want this to work, also I am not going to format anything.
Are you 100% sure there isn't a setting in the BIOS that you haven't disabled? Or if the BIOS has it's own PXE menu during startup? Have a good look around through the settings.
It must be a setting in the bios. Also, if harddisks are set first, there is probably no OS on them or the computer can't fin them. PXE is a setting in the BIOS you can enable or disable. Watch closely when you exit the BIOS that you actually save the bios settings. Read the hotkey instructions in the BIOS.
