Authorities are responding to an emergency after an airplane with 72 people on board has crashed on its way to Medellin’s international airport.Medellin’s international airport said on its Twitter account that the aircraft had departed from Bolivia.
It’s not clear if there are any survivors. But local media reported that the charter aircraft was carrying members of the football team Chapecoense from Brazil, which is scheduled to play Copa Sudamerica finals against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday in Medellin.

That sucks. Reminds me of things like the Munich Air disaster for English football.
But can we please stop using the breaking title in threads?

it's accurate, the plane broke.

Why? If it just happened, then it's breaking, no?
Anyways, on topic, this is tragic, and however low the chances may be, I hope that they survived.

It's stupid - almost everything posted in this forum category, SH, is breaking. And then it requires someone to edit the title later on, when its not so breaking anymore.
It's just a pointless thing which is irritating.

Fixed.
Update:
"Confirmed, the aircraft license number CP2933 was carrying the team @ChapecoenseReal. Apparently there are survivors," the Jose Maria Cordova de Rionegro airport, which serves Medellin, said on its Twitter account.

The current title makes it sound conspiratorial, like the Polish government plane crash.
This is really sad news. This team had an amazing performance this year and they were serious contenders for the finals this wednesday.
Seriously hoping the players and everyone else aboard are safe.

Polish government is shooting down planes in Colombia now?
it always strikes me odd when things like this happen and everyone's first worry is the famous people, with a tacked on "hope everyone else is fine" or something
not accusing anyone or anything like that, it's just something i notice a lot

Like it or not, the sports players have a more noticeable impact on a community. The teams bring a lot of business and pride to a community that might not have anything else.
I wonder how you even describe the experience of surviving a plane crash.
It's probably safe to say they sustained some injuries at least.

Half a billion people die every day, yet, it's commonplace to not think about any of those people ever. It's only ever impacting to most people when either they or someone they know is affected.
And in these cases, they "know" someone involved with the accident. Namely, the celebrities.

I would check your math there

I think you're off by a factor of ten plus there buddy. Half a billion would be the population of the Earth would be wiped out in 14 days if there were zero births.

Is the apocalypse happening? I hadn't noticed

Most would describe it as massive guilt and PTSD

You solved nothing, his problem was that tomorrow its no longer 'breaking news' so you shouldn’t use the permanent title to display a fleeting status.
This story just gets sadder and sadder. Small and good team, they went into the first BR league some years ago, and now this was the first international cup finals they were gonna play in their story. Plane apparently -from what I've heard- ran out of gas. Flight was supposed to be direct from Brazil to Colombia, but apparently things were changed at last second, and the plane not only left the airport 2 hours late, but also had to first stop at Bolivia and then go to Colombia. Things were handled poorly, and sadly, not only a promising football team were in the plane crash, but also a lot of other people. Aprox 80 in the plane. This is just so sad honestly.

Reminds me of a joke Ricky Gervais pulled a long while back. "I'd probably be the only one name-checked on the news, you'd be 230 others."
Jesus, this is just bloody horrible.
I hope they can discover the cause of the crash.
The current title makes it sound conspiratorial, like the Polish government plane crash.
There's nothing conspirational about that plane crash tho
It seems Danilo, the goalkeeper, passed away.
Why are you guys fucking arguing about a stupid thread title.
Saw the headline pop up on Facebook as I was warming up my car after work. Can't imagine how horrible that must have been.
It's stupid - almost everything posted in this forum category, SH, is breaking..
Hardly, a lot of articles here are posted days or even weeks after they hit the news.
they were one of those dream teams that comes from nothing and rises to the top, they were gonna play in the final of the south american cup, what a tragic end to a beautiful historic tale, absolutely devastating
I read a comment that said "in Brazil, everybody(football teams) hates each other, except Chapecoense"
[editline]29th November 2016[/editline]
their opponents in the final Atlético Nacional have asked the confederation to award Chapecoense with the title
