Vandals have broken into a railway station in Melbourne's north-east, started a train and then derailed it, "destroying everything in its path" after seemingly obtaining a key on the black market. Victoria Police believe the offenders broke into the train at the Hurstbridge Railway Station about 1:50am. They managed to start the train and drive it forward, before running into carriages, fencing and security boxes. Metro Trains chief executive Andrew Lezala said the incident had caused about $3 million in damage and a key would have been needed to start the train. "Somebody has gained access to one of our trains and managed to motor it up," he said. "The train has been derailed by the derailing device, which is there to stop trains getting onto the main line when they shouldn't be there. "So it's done its job, but [the act has] caused extensive damage."
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-11/train-derailed-2m-damage-hurstbridge-railway-station/6929500 You don't see that every day.
after seemingly obtaining a key on the black market.
I didn't know you just needed a key to start a train like it's starting a car.
I didn't know you just needed a key to start a train like it's starting a car.
It's probably the same key to every train anyways.
So what exactly was their intention? If it was simply to cause destruction then mission accomplished I guess
why couldn't they be like german vandals [t]http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/04/30/14/2829967500000578-3062525-image-a-2_1430399090511.jpg[/t] much less annoying
fucking hurstbridge
derailing device
I didn't know this was a thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derail
Hope the fuckers that did this got hurt in the ensuing crash.
after seemingly obtaining a key on the black market.
Why do I have a feeling they left the key somewhere and this was the first excuse they could come up with :v:
only in the northern suburbs
I have a train key. Looks like a yellow toy screwdriver. Black market my ass :v: You can buy these on ebay.
:hypeisnotreal:
It's probably the same key to every train anyways.
It is, the transit authority said that this particular train takes a universal key.
Pretty impressive that they managed to get it started up. You know it is Video games like Railroad Simulator 2015 that are causing these types of problems. They thought they could sell that train for DLC
So what exactly was their intention?
Crashing this train with no survivors.
Lame, was gonna go see my mate that lives in Greensborough tomorrow. I fuckin hate replacement buses
They were inside the train when it crashed, or they turned her on, throttled her down, then bailed?
I hope they can track these people down.
who's idea was it at MTM (Metro Trains Melbourne) to leave all of the driving implements (specifically the throttle, break levers and reverser switch) in the cab? Nearly every railway in every state in the Australia has specially designed levers that can be detached when not in use and render the train immovable... I think MTM has a lot of explaining to do.
Hope the fuckers that did this got hurt in the ensuing crash.
Uuhhh
It is, the transit authority said that this particular train takes a universal key.
its the same with most large vehicles like dump trucks etc
Unless there is some other factor at play, doesn't that seem like a dangerously huge security flaw?
Uuhhh
Aghhh
I can see how this would be a bad situation, but a security issue? The safety mechanisms that were put in place worked properly and further damage was avoided.
These scumbags took the train onto a main line and could have killed innocent people if the derail device didn't work. Fuck them, I hope they get caught and given a hefty sentence. Driving a train for shits and giggles is ridiculously stupid, but I'm mainly butthurt about the fact they tried taking it onto a mainline (probs unknowingly but that doesn't excuse it) and could have killed innocent people.
Reminds me of GTA when you could drive trains.
Uuhhh
Why not?
Why not?
Wishing harm to come to other generanlly isn't the greatest thing, despite harm they have caused others.
