Gigabit by 2030? Bit too long for my liking personally. I think we should be aiming for it in the next four or five years.
If your DSL isn't fit for purpose than ours isn't fit to exist at all.[QUOTE=Genericenemy;45383190]Gigabit by 2030? Bit too long for my liking personally. You can do several cities at once, it's just a matter of funding. You can do several phases of a roll out at the same time even. And that's the issue here; the reason it's taking so long and will take until 2030 for gigabit, is funding. The lack the "ambition" (to quote the article) to fund better infrastructure.
I can sympathise with this. Our company moved premises back in May and the industrial estate we were on was pretty new. The best ADSL speed we could get was about 3 Mb/s. We moved to the current estate which is a 1.6 mile drive, and can get 75 Mb/s FTTC for a similar price. I hope BT and co sort something out, there's a large disparity of connection qualities in the UK.

It only took them a few months to fibre optic the majority of my shithole town when they finally got around to it.
The problem with OpenReach is that they're highly understaffed. They recently hired a new fleet of engineers and are constantly employing more subcontractors for works... but the UK is a high density nation and the demand is simply too high to cope. Sitting on a huge network of copper is a nightmare.
Not fit for purpose? Yes Does this mean they'll do anything about it? No...

Started in Spring then became available around November time.
